Setting The Table For Draft Day

Posted by Mike Wobschall on April 22, 2010 – 12:31 pm

Draft day is finally here and all of the speculation finally ends – for the 1st round, anyway.

In just a matter of hours we’ll find out what the Vikings are going to do with their 1st round pick (#30 overall). Will they take a QB? Or will they address a defensive spot? Maybe they’ll trade up or trade back. There are a number of different ways it could go and soon we’ll finally find out.

In the meantime, though, we’re glad you’re here on vikings.com because we have you covered for everything pertaining to the Vikings during the NFL draft. The NFL’s schedule release on Tuesday and the Vikings signing of CB Lito Sheppard have given us other news to think about, so be sure to check out our coverage of those events. Voice of the Vikings Radio Network Paul Allen and I broke down the Vikings schedule and then both CJ and I shared some thoughts on the Sheppard signing.

Also, check out the 1st ever vikings.com Mock Draft and then head over to the vikings.com Draft Central page to make sure you’re up-to-date on all the latest developments.

When it’s time for the draft to begin, be sure to join us for a vikings.com live chat that will last through the Vikings 1st round pick later tonight.

That’s it for now but we’ll have updates constantly throughout today so be sure to stick here on vikings.com and the vikings.com Blog.

The vikings will take patrick robinson, tim tebow, or taylor mays if they cant move up to pick dan williams. they also will end up with signing brain westbrook a couple weeks after the draft.

I’d be happy with Taylor Mays but if the oppurtunity is there for us to draft Tebow I think we should do it and here is my reason why. Just think how much better the best QB to ever play the game Brett Favre could make Tebow with Tebow sitting behind him this season. Favre could make him a monster to be reckoned with a few seasons from now and with Peterson and Rice still being young we could be set.

Drafting Tebow would be stupid. Brett Favre couldn’t teach him and wouldn’t teach him. Remember thats how he felt with Rodgers, he was not there to babysit him. Tebow doesn’t have the accuracy to be in the same league as any starter out there. Favre has the fast cannon and accuracy and Tebow has neither. Everyone knew Rodgers had a good arm before he got drafted and thought he would amount to a good QB in the NFL, nobody really thinks that about Tebow, everyone is skeptic, even those that believe in him. I hope he does well and proves everyone wrong but thats a big stretch.

A real vikings fan would know we need either an OL or a safety for our first pick. I think there will be at least a couple good ones at both positions when its our turn to pick, and i agree with some others that are saying that we could trade down because more than likely someone is going to want tebow or someone we don’t want at our 30th pick and we can still get our pick later.

ESPN mock draft has Tebow and Clausen still on the board at 30. I like Mays, and feel we would be reaching for Tebow, but what about Clausen?

  7. By Lance on Apr 22, 2010 | Reply

I have no problems at all with Clausen other than the fact he is not a proven NFL QB and I like going in a different direction but of all the QB’s he is my favorite and would pick him first if it was a need. Now if Vikings get him he is the only pick outside of an OL and Safety I wouldn’t get too upset about because like i said i think he is the best one out there. He was coached by an NFL offensive genius, argueably, so he i think he was prepared well.

I think Brett would teach Tim Tebow a lot. Brett is the best and Tim would appreciate him. Tim is strong and will last for many years like Brett. Tim is a leader and a winner like Brett. They are just at opposite sides of their career. But they both love football so much and would do anything to win. The team that takes Tim will be very lucky and smart. I just hope Brett comes back and stays a few years. His knowledge and magic with the team is amazing. When Brett eventually retires it will be a huge loss for alll football fans. There will never be such an amazing player as Brett. 40 years old and still the greatest!

I think we need defense first and then we try to move up for Colt Mccoy in the second round!

I think they will take the best player remaining. Hopefully, it will fit your needs. I am hoping that T.J and Sage is improving and learning at QB. I will get a chance to tell in the pre-season games.

J.Sanford and A. Allen are coming into their 2nd year and should play better.

There are several on the Practice Squad that could (have) develop into players. The Vikings coaching staff needs someone to work (mentally) with these guys to develop their skills and abilities to the next level.

Please if all we did was draft the best players and not the best that we actually need that makes us better then we are the Oakland raiders

CLAUSEN couldn’t deal with the Defenses in the SEC and transfer from Tenn. They shouldn’t pick a QB in the first few rounds, if at all this year. A gifted DT, OL or S they should grab them up, otherwise the best player available.

    Brian Price/ Taylor Mays

Tebow has the attitude, work ethic, and communications skills to be a great Viking. Favre was an unselfish mentor to many of the younger Vikings last year and would do the same for Tebow this year. He could even get some play in the backfield this year as he learns the Vikings quarterback position.

Thank goodness tebow is gone so idiot fans don’t can’t be begging to pick him

We need taylor mays. picking jimmy clausen would be a big mistake. out offense is already good enough this year. loosing favre would be huge but we need to focus on the D backs. winfeild cant do it alone. and the lose of sharper(which still to this day confuses me) hurt us bad.

Tjax or sage have to man up if favre leaves.
