QB Jackson Signs RFA Tender

Posted by Mike Wobschall on April 19, 2010 – 10:39 am

Last Thursday we cited a Star Tribune report that said QB Tarvaris Jackson would soon sign his restricted free agent (RFA) tender.

Soon has arrived because Jackson has signed the tender.

The signing leaves DE Ray Edwards as the only Vikings RFA to not sign his tender offer.

    TO:ALL T JACK HATERS

If you hate t-jack that bad go and be a fan of other team but seriously he keeps improving every year so if your not seeing that you must not be a big vikings fan I am guessing I am happy for the vikings to sign him and I not saying he is the best qb but I think he will be decent for the team thats all I can hope is for the best for him. So If your going to say my worst fear came true or Seriously? This fella is a never was and a never will be. What a sorry excuse for a QB and a waste of money!. Well get off the vikings fan base and go watch the packers or some other team.

i definetly believe in tavarias jackson. i really hope brett comes back though cause that makes us superbowl compatible. with out him, we will make it to the playoffs, but will probably not get as far as we did last year. brett favre+vikings=superbowl champs. thats right saints, were going to kick ur butts this year!!!!

I totally agree with you Kevin I have faith in T-Jack and all of you T-Jack haters out there just you wait and see and he will show you all

This signing was almost inevitable. That is why it wasn’t news until now. He will most likely get traded before the year is out. A solid backup until then.

what did jackson do wrong he threw interceptions but dont all qbs do that

  12. By Brandon on Apr 19, 2010 | Reply

Tjack has one major problem an inability to read the field unlike most other QB’s when the receiver he wants to throw the ball to is covered he lacks the ability to find another and get the ball to him my diagnosis is “tunnel vision” he needs to be traded…

honestly, i prefer we keep out options open for our backup qb until time runs out. tjack did really disappoint me, despite the fact he’s getting better every year, he’s still not superbowl material. he does know the offense but at least he’s no jamarcus russell (sorry raiders). keep looking for a better option and if none can be found, then i back up our backup!

    To Kevin

Are you sure your watching the same Minnesota vikings as the rest of us. Gus Frerotte leads us to the playoffs and gets hurt, so Tarvaris “No Arm” Jackson plays the last two or three games and does good. Then Coach Chilly Starts him in the playoffs and look what happened. his only touchdown pass in the playoffs right to AS. You really cant be behind this guy as our quarterback. I believe the vikings should trade t-jack and a 3rd or 4th for Jason Campbell. i believe with time in one system and learning under sage and possibly Brett, Campbell will be a good if not great QB in the NFL.

T Jack is a poor man’s Michael Vick. I mean come on how long does a guy have to get “better”. Draft a QB and move T Jack to waterboy.

  16. By secondnature815 on Apr 19, 2010 | Reply

I second that, Kevin is totally lost. T Jack is not the right fit for the Vikings. If you can’t see the difference between Brett and T Jack then you are destined to mediocrity and I want a Super Bowl caliber team for the VIKES!!!

I Think Jackson under Favre is the best Idea, he has the mechanics and under Favre he can get the skill set to see the whole field, I like how Favre goes right over and talks to him when he gets off the field and shows him what he did and why!!

  18. By bill on Apr 19, 2010 | Reply

t jack will never be a farve as for learning from farve i think we should keep sage as our back up now that the vikes signed t jack we are back in the cullpepper mentality if a qb doesnt get it in the 1st year pretty much a back up for life make sage the back up trade t jack to green bay

  19. By marcus on Apr 19, 2010 | Reply

thanks vikings!!! give him some qb opp plays and he will be alright! i think this was a smart choice plus he knows the system and had a chance to study the game from the sideline and pick up little tips from brett. mark my words he is due for a break out year when his number is call trust what i say!!! GO VIKES!!!!!

  20. By rap99 on Apr 19, 2010 | Reply

KEVIN, I do not hate TJ, I rooted for him, but he is NOT an NFL QB. The vikes will NOT be contenders with TJ at QB. Don’t want to root for another team, just want to win a superbowl.

Tjack is avery disappointing signing for me personally. In the three years he has been there he as never shown where he wants to be the starting QB. He hasnt improved his feild play very well. I thinkthe vikings better be looking for a future QB even if Farve signs, but Tjack isnt it.

Biggest Mistake of the offseason. What a Joke, signing Tjoke tells me that I’ll still have to worry about Chilldress play calls this year. Tjoke is Childress’s scape goat for when things go bad. Favre’s the man and I’d honestly rather have someone like Tebow, or Sage learn from favre than the team paying Tjoke 1.1 mil to get fat on the bench. We lack the vision so the team will suffer. Not negativity just reality; I know reality aint very popular in Minnesota, I live here. Anyways hope Favre stays healthy and bring us the throne.

I have been following the Vikings almost since they started. Since the days of “Two gun Tommy” It seems all the Vikings can do is pick up old washed up qb’s. Yes I include Favre in that comment. Favre had a great year as he always does when he has a great team around him. The Two times the team has went after “Fresh” blood, (Daunte and T-Jack) they have shown they can’t pick a good qb. I was a huge Daunte fan until he quit improving and T-Jack has never gotten anywhere near Daunte’s capability. This is the biggest waste of money they have ever spent unless they have someone dumb enough to trade to in the wings.

Some fans are forgetting that TJack was under Favre last season. I know TJ had to have learned something from the old man. Jackson has potential he just needs more learning. We’ll see what all Jackson has learned from Favre this upcoming preseason.

  25. By Mike on Apr 20, 2010 | Reply

Kevin! Rock on brother!! Tavarias Jackson is without a doubt our back up to Favre, or if Favre decides to retire, then he is our starter and he will do a great job and I completly agree with you. To everyone who has nothing good to say about TJ! Go cheer for the packers……..better yet, go cheer for the Lions cuz they need all the help they can get!

  26. By ohyeaheh on Apr 20, 2010 | Reply

I’m not sure what Jackson some of you have watched but Brandon stated the truth…He can’t read the defense and makes very poor decisions. His potential is maxed out. Jackson has been a bust. The Vikings should just cut their losses and move on.

I will never root for the Cheeseheads. Honestly I was not happy when Favre signed but at least he is a good QB. Hopefully that relic will hang up his cleats soon and end all the needless guesswork for the team.

    Then there is Brad Childress….

  27. By radzinwisconsin on Apr 20, 2010 | Reply

Who said that Favre went directly to Jackson on the sideline to show him pointers? Favre has never done that with anyone let alone Jackson with his hat backwards the necklace like a baseball player showing. Do a trade for another pick for him and at 1.2 in salary dont you think he will be complaining soon!

  28. By J.R. on Apr 20, 2010 | Reply

I’m not a Jackson fan because he has yet to start for a full season. I too think this signing was a bad one because Jackson will NOT meet expectations the club has. The goal for the team is to win the Super Bowl. The Vikes mangled up o-line and Jackson will be lucky to get us 9 wins.

More and more and More the vikings Keep T Jackson
the More I Cheer for The Houston Texans & other NFL teams that
    have a Better QB.
T jackson was no good in college either so what was bradchildless thinking?
I made my Mind Up Not cheering for the vikings if they have T jackson has starting QB.

    Jackson what i looser!

To KEVIN: It’s pretty easy to improve on a 77 QB rating. That is one of the worst in the league!

  31. By ASlusher on Apr 20, 2010 | Reply

Ofcourse we want to see Favre come back, but have some faith in T-Jack people! If we ever really gave him a chance to prove anything, I think he’d surprise you! Besides, it is what it is. Suck it up and get behind your team, no matter who the QB is. Everyone wants them to win the big one, but you can’t expect someone to produce when all they hear is how bad they are! Go Vikes!!!!!! I can’t wait.

Sloppy play…no QB instincts… and everytime he came into the game with excellent field position he couldn’t lead us to a TD. He has cost me money in the past LETS GET RID OF THE TRASH!

  33. By lee12akma on Apr 20, 2010 | Reply

I don’t think Tavaris Jackson’s a complete bust. If you look at QB positions, there are a lot of QBs who sucked and became extremely good. True, he did have 5 years to improve and become better, I still don’t think we should give up on him just yet. There is always a possibility that he might become good. In my honest opinion though, I would rather draft a new quarterback this season and build the offense around him. But that’s just my opinion. Our offensive line is more geared to the running game (I think), and because of that our passing game could be better if we drafted a scrambler QB rather than a pocket passer.

  34. By Kevin on Apr 20, 2010 | Reply

To all t-jack people that say what a waste of money or he horrible. I am not saying he is the best or he is a bust but this will be the final season if he plays this season to make it or break it. So t-jack improve each year and well he may not be the best option but no way do I want Tim Tebow he is not a NFL QB he may say he is the hardest worker but he not going to make it. Also I am not saying t-jack will make it to the superbowl or whatever and I am hoping for is him to do his best and make it there but with history he not. So he just had Favre help him out for a year in practice maybe not games but either way he learn good things from Favre. I don’t say oh this vikings players suck get him off the team then you are not a true fan but you do have to go with the best players out there for competition. For the waste of money come on 1.75M that is not a lot of money for a backup QB really that would be a good deal. So if your going to complain just choose a different team to watch because you stick with your team not put your team down or a team player down which is the vikings because its not helping.

    TO VIKINGSDUDE
Here I go Jason Campbell sucks he is a complete bust he should be out of the nfl because he is so bad. He holds on the ball to long and he cant help out any team if he was a great QB he would make it to the playoffs so he shouldnt be our QB

Why sign him? Makes no sense…. Bring Johnson back

  37. By Fred Z on Apr 20, 2010 | Reply

Why does everyone say that if you don’t like T-Jack go root for another team. I have been watching this team for almost 40 years. I think I can have an opinion as to what I think are good or bad moves by the team. If you move to another team just because of one or two players or a losing season, then you are not a fan, I have stuck through thick and thin. I AM ALLOWED my opinion. I think T-Jack is bad for the team and he will never lead us to a Super Bowl. I want a Super Bowl, I have watched four loses and have waited a long time for a victory. Sadly, I think last year was our year and unless a miracle occurs with good trades and picks, with the loss of some key players, I just don’t see it happening this year.

  38. By fmfan on Apr 21, 2010 | Reply

people should be allowed their opinions but should maybe explain their point of view (with facts). Jonathan lost money so he says Tjack is trash and shep said it is easy to improve on a 77 passer rating when Tjack had the highest rating of all QBs in 2009. yes it was with limited play but it shows that he has learned were and were not to throw the ball. In 2008 weeks 14-17 Tjack had 8tds and 1int with a P.R. around 117 and help the vikings go 3-1 in that stretch to make the playoffs.
