Earlier this week we discussed how the trade of WR Santonio Holmes from the Pittsburgh Steelers to the NY Jets impacted the Vikings in 2010 – it’s just one more reason why the Vikings-Jets matchup would be a good one to showcase in prime time.
Now there’s been another trade involving a WR that will have a similar impact on the Vikings during the upcoming season.
The Denver Broncos traded Brandon Marshall to the Miami Dolphins on Wednesday, a deal that gives the Dolphins an elite player at a position of need in exchange for their 2nd round pick this year and their 2nd round pick in 2011. The trade also gives the Vikings another WR with which to contend during the 2010 regular season because the Purple will see Miami at some point during the upcoming regular season.
While the true impact of these 2 WR trades on the Vikings is probably not as significant as it may seem, the fact remains these additions will only make more important the Vikings task of strengthening its pass defense for 2010. Many are speculating the Vikings will address the secondary with their 1st round pick (#30 overall) and that speculation is supported in light of the Dolphins and Jets acquiring talented WRs.
In his only career game against the Vikings (December of 2007), Marshall recorded 10 receptions for 114 yards and 1 TD. He also had 2 rushing attempts for 31 yards and 1 fumble.
