It might be the middle of the offseason, but you wouldn’t be able to tell it by the sounds coming from the weight room at Winter Park. The music is loud and the weight plates are clacking as the Vikings offseason program hits full stride today with veteran players arriving.
The offseason program for players with 1 to 3 years of service began on March 29 and today it began for players with 4 or more years of experience. Because these sessions are not mandatory not every player on the roster will be in town, but many of the veterans and younger players are here pushing hard toward the 2010 season.
Players rehabbing from injuries have been here day-in and day-out since the end of last season. Other players, such as LB Chad Greenway, P Chris Kluwe, LB Ben Leber and LB Kenny Onatolu, have been regulars at Winter Park all offseason. But it was good to see guys such as TE Jim Kleinsasser, CB Benny Sapp and DT Kevin Williams walk through the doors this morning.
I expect to see plenty more veterans today and moving forward in the next few weeks. Head Coach Brad Childress’ has seen good participation overall in his offseason programs in Minnesota, just one of the many reasons he’s been able to foster a good atmosphere in the locker room and help improve the team’s record every years since arriving here in 2006.
With so many guys around the facility, be sure to check vikings.com frequently for updates and news.
