Report: Vikings Agree To Terms With Free Agent Montgomery

Posted by Ryan Cardinal on March 29, 2010 – 7:40 pm

According to the Twitter feed of the Star Tribune’s Judd Zulgad, the Vikings have come to terms with free agent defensive end Mike Montgomery.  Various online reports said that Montgomery, a former Packer, was at Winter Park on Monday for a visit.  The 26-year-old signed a one-year deal with the Vikings, according to Zulgad.

Montgomery played his college football at Texas A&M and has five career sacks at the NFL level.  He’ll provide depth at the defensive end position and a bit of insurance in case Ray Edwards, who is a restricted free agent, does not return to the team.

I guess if if allen or edwards get hurt, it’s not a bad addition

No argument here. Now we have 2 solid backup DEs with Robisson and the new guy. And we may just be a little better off if Edwards gets picked up by another team now too. I’ve liked what I’ve seen from Robisson, and thought at times he was just as good as Edwards. So Zulgad and Robisson can battle it out for the starting spot that Edwards opened up and we’ll have an extra 1st round pick to really get the team geared up for 2010.

Good addition but COME ON VIKES pick it up and make a little bit bigger of a splash in free agency.

Don’t need to pick it up. It is smart to add depth at any position.

HOW ABOUT THE VIKES NOT WAITING FOR FAVRE AND GO GET MCNABB

HOW ABOUT GETTING STRONGER ALL AROUND TO GIVE FAVRE MORE INCENTIVE TO RETURN. HE IS STILL OUR BEST CHANCE AT A SUPERBOWL. IT WOULD BE WONDERFUL TO HAVE HIM ANNOUNCE HIS RETURN SOON. IF YOU’RE READING THIS BRETT, YOU KNOW YOU HAVE AT LEAST ONE MORE IN YOU. YOU HAVE A GREAT TEAM AROUND YOU. DON’T RETIRE WITH ANY UNRESOLVED ISSUES OR QUESTIONS.

MCNAB WONT STAY HEALTHY AND I WILL WAIT FOR FARVE ANY DAY IF HE LEAVES LETS GIVE SAGE A SHOT! AND WHO GRAB RAY EDWARDS!! WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR ? MONTGOMERY IS NOT WE NEED A GREAT FRONT FOUR IN THE NORTH NOT AN AVERAGE ONE!

vfan – The other 3 make the 4th guy (left end) look good, just so long as he is average. Robisson deserved the spot just as much as Ray, but either way we have what we need. Depth is crucial, and that is what this new addition brings. He’ll be someone we can count on to give the other ends a breather during long defensive drives.

PurpleNurple- Robisson is good but he does not as good as Edwards. However, Robisson has the right to prove me wrong next season. I know we need depth and bringing in Montgomery will give us that as well as create competition. In the mean time it just worry’s me that no offer has been excepted Ray Edwards is a key player and really showed his talent in the playoffs.

Yeah, I love it. Once again the VikeQueens have to depend on getting good players from the PACK. The upper office (with the exception of AP, who fell into your lap) can’t draft and build a team intelligently on their own. So they wait to see who the PACK has to cut cause we ‘re just loaded and know how to build, then ya scoop em up. Love it! Ya gonna peek over our shoulder during the draft too? It’s gonna be a great year! GO PACK!

is that why 5-6 of the packers starters were drafted by other teams!
