Vikings With Rooting Interest In NCAA Tourney

Posted by Mike Wobschall on March 18, 2010 – 9:25 am

Today is a slow news day for the Vikings. Today is also the beginning of the NCAA Tournament. But instead of ignoring my job this morning and focusing only on the basketball tournament, I thought I’d come up with a blog entry related to both the Vikings and the tournament so that I could ignore my job this afternoon and focus only on the basketball tournament.

So here it goes.

There are 24 players on the Vikings roster who played college football for schools that will participate in this year’s tournament. Those 24 players represent 18 different institutions, with Maryland and Texas being the schools with the most players (3 each).

There are no players on the roster who represent a #1 seed but 7 players who will be paying close attention to #2 seeds. TE Visanthe Shiancoe represents the lowest-seeded school – Morgan State University, seeded 15th in the East bracket.

There are 3 matchups between players on the Vikings roster. They are:

– Tennessee (Anthony Herrera) vs. San Diego State (Heath Farwell)
— West Virginia (Darius Reynaud) vs. Morgan State (Shiancoe)
— New Mexico (DeAndre Wright) vs. Montana (Colt Anderson)

Who cares? How about a list of players the Vikings have interviewed at Pro Days so far? Or something newsworthy like that?

Eh? – If you don’t care about the post then simply disregard it. As Mike mentioned, it is a slow news day for the Vikings and this post is shedding a little light on other current news in the sports world that also relates to Vikings players. I assure you there will be plenty of news coverage on the team involving pro day interviews and other ‘newsworthy’ events leading up to the Draft.

no cjsiewert – “eh?’ has a point. this website is always slow to report news. the jimmy kennedy signing occurred almost if not a week ago and they posted it yesterday. -__- besides no one cares about what a blogger thinks or what anyone else having to due with media thinks. we just want the facts.

Raul 919 – I’m not going to use this space to generate any arguments, but just to make things clear, a blogger is entitled to his/her opinion and can post what he/she wishes. And as far as the Kennedy signing goes, it was reported on the 13th and was not confirmed by the Vikings until the 17th.

I agree with cjsiewert, its something to read about and take interest in. On slow days where there is NO news what do you expect the guy to do? I think its a good blog and when they get vikings news we will hear it. As far as the NCAA tourney goes, I am going for WVU. They have a great team coached by bob huggins. !Vikes fan from birth til death!
