Report: Vikings Re-Sign DT Kennedy

Posted by Mike Wobschall on March 13, 2010 – 5:09 pm

In the entry just before this one, CJ referenced a report speculating that the Philadelphia Eagles may be considering whether or not Vikings DE Ray Edwards, a restricted free agent (RFA) with a 1st round tender, would be worth swiping from the Vikings.

CJ also then broke down the Vikings options moving forward should Edwards sign with Philadelphia.

If this report from NFL.com’s Jason La Canfora is accurate, there’s another member of the Vikings defensive line who could have left town for another team but has instead decided to stick around. According to La Canfora, DT Jimmy Kennedy has re-signed with the Vikings.

After visiting with the Buffalo Bills this week and openly desiring a starting role somewhere, Kennedy has decided to return to the Vikings, where his role may not be a starting one but is important nonetheless. Kennedy is a frequent sub in the Vikings defensive line, a unit that features fellow DTs Kevin Williams and Pat Williams. Many times Kennedy comes in to spell Pat Williams, specifically in passing situations.

We’ve reached out to the appropriate people within the organization but have not been able to confirm La Canfora’s report. If and when we receive confirmation, we’ll let you know.

I think we needed to keep him. He will replace Pat Williams when he retires. i don’t think we will be drafting a DT in the first round now.

Maybe Kennedy can be our back up replacement for Ray Edwards. He could always try to play as DE.

Since LT decided to go jets, why can’t the vikings go after Westbrook?

Lots of playing time for Kennedy when the Williams get suspended.

Gus brooks: the answer is simple, westbrooke is too big of a risk. besides we dont need to waste money on him anyways. We have albert young and Ian johnson.

Goodmorning, please do not mention getting Mcnabb, he has has 11 years to win a superbowl and last season against a common divisional opponent could not with all those weapons get A touchdown in eight quarters of football, come on. Listen that fella with a due respect dont have the fire, to win a NFC championship let alone a superbowl. I am in P.A. and grew up in Minnesota, the word is he spends too much time playing around on the sidelines, you wont see Farve, Manning or Brady playing on the side lines, they are focused, dont make this team the Veagles Or the Mckings this guy like westbrook is past his prime and the fans for the most part here seem to really want him outtahere, could there be a legitamate reason why?????
