Power And Speed On Display On Sunday

Sunday was not a day of rest for the players participating in the NFL Scouting Combine. A few of the position groups are putting up some impressive numbers.

Look on this page and you’ll see some blazing 40-yard dash times, including a 4.28 mark by WR Jacoby Ford and 4.35 and 4.37 performances from RBs Jahvid Best and C.J. Spiller.

As speedy as some of those times are, the performances from D-linemen in the bench press were just as strong. Frank Tydach of called the DL bench pressing session the most entertaining 2-hour session of the Combine.

Georgia DT Jeff Owens put up 44 reps of the 225-pound bench and Tydach says that worked the rest of the room into a frenzy. Also putting up impressive numbers were Mammoth East Carolina DT Linval Joseph (39 reps) and Georgia DT Geno Atkins and UCLA DT Brian Price with 34 each.

Decker At Combine, But Unable To Workout

Posted by Mike Wobschall on February 28, 2010 – 3:54 pm

Coaches and scouts – as well as those of you who are observing NFL Network’s TV coverage – are watching QBs, RBs and WRs go through their on-field workouts today at Lucas Oil Stadium.

But for Minnesota football fans it might feel as if something is missing – and it is. Golden Gopher’s WR Eric Decker is not working out because of a foot injury he sustained during the 2009 season.

Decker had one surgery already on the foot and he’ll undergo another one on March 15; he said he’ll be ready to hit the field for whichever team drafts him by June.

Speaking of the draft, how is the injury and his inability to workout for teams before the draft going to affect his standing with teams? That’s yet to be determined, but Decker seems comfortable with how things will play out.

“Unfortunately, I can’t run and compete with these guys,” Decker told Frank Tadych of “But my mindset is to go in there and sell my character, sell the smarts on the field and the consistency I’ve had over the last four seasons.”

I wasn’t able to catch up with Decker down in Indianapolis because his media session was right around the time Vikings VP of Player Personnel Rick Spielman was meeting with Twin Cities reporters. But caught up with him and you can watch the interview by clicking here.

Posted by Mike Wobschall on February 28, 2010 – 9:40 am

I’ve arrived back home after 4 complete days at the 2010 NFL Scouting Combine. And although is back in Minnesota, our coverage of the event continues. We’ll be monitoring NFL Network and other sources for news developments and results from Indianapolis and across the NFL.

This is Day 5 of the Combine, and here is the schedule…

–Groups 1-3 (kickers, specialists and TEs) have gone home
— Groups 4-6 (QBs, WRs and RBs) have on-field workouts
–Groups 7-9 (DL and LBs) have an NFLPA meeting and then will go through psychological testing and team meetings
— Groups 10-11 (DBs) have measurements, medical exams, media sessions, psychological testing and team interviews.

The last 4 days have been very active in Indianapolis, with so much going on in the media center and with important facets – medical exams, player media sessions and team meetings – of the Combine taking place. But the next few days will be fun, too, because the skill positions players will get out on the field and compete with one another.

Be sure to stay tuned to and the Blog for more updates throughout the Combine…
