Mr. Hippe’s Weather Report

Posted by Mike Wobschall on January 24, 2010 – 6:49 pm

Tonight’s game is in the Louisiana Superdome, but that doesn’t mean Mr. Hippe took the night off.

After careful consideration, the Vikings official weather guru has determined that the internal temperature at the Superdome does not rest of the normal 68 degrees.

With the electricity in the air and the fanfare involved with this game, Mr. Hippe says it’s 71 degrees.

19 years in the league, you would think Farve would know when not to try and be a hero. He could have run for 10 yards easily. Farve cost us the season. Thanks Brett, enjoy your retirement. All the Farve lovers can kiss my a s s! Go Vikes! Go T-Jack!

Sick. it would have been nice if the Vikings had gotten their players in shape for the season. What’s with Mr. Obese #94? Just enough energy to stand around during and after plays and do the “whassup?” look.

Brooking non factor last week. Jared Hotdog Allen non factor this week. Enjoy the Superbowl Tro, Bruce and Company.

Enjoy Viking fans. As a Packer fan, I feel your pain, because I was at the NFC championship in Green Bay just a few years ago when Brett seems to forget what logical football is at the most opportune time. Run the ball and let Longwell have a shot at it. That is all he needed to do. His legacy will be Int at Phily, Int against NY and Pick against New Orleans

    End of story!

NO , THERE WAS NO WAY THAT THAT GUY COULD HAVE CAUGHT THAT NEXT TO LAST PASS IT WAS A THROUGH AWAY ,PLAIN AND SIMPLE– THAT LAST 12 YARD PASS– AT NO TIME DID HE HAVE CONTROL OF THAT FOOT BALL – HE BOBBLED IT 3 DISTINCT TIMES AND THEN TRAPPED IT TO HIS RT THIGH AND CROCH. THE OFFICIATING SUCKED.IT REMINDED ME OF FRAN TARKINTEN GETTING HIS LEG BROKE THE WAY THE JUST KEPT SLAMMING INTO BRETT –OOPS ,SORRY ABOUT THAT– I HAD FORWAD MOMENTEM – BS THESE GUYS CAN STOP AND SWIVEL ON A DIME !!!!!

I cant believe what just happened. What makes me more sick then our team fumbling the ball and the interceptions is the OT calls, and the bad hits on Brett. It looked like they were trying to hurt him. Also, What they did to Kurt. It was bull. I might not even watch football after what I seen. Its was just plain sad.

Heartbreaking is the only word for it. Eerily similar to the Pittsburgh Steelers game that we lost earlier this year. Out played them, yet out turnovered as well. I’m at a loss for words. 1st and 10 from the 33 and Saints are out of time outs. To think we did not win is dumbfounding. I can’t even think about next year. Without Brett we’re right back to 10-6 football. This was it. Too many men in the huddle will haunt me for a while. Never mind the nonsense calls in overtime, shoulda been over by then.

Poor sports all you nay-sayers! The game wasn’t lost by one person. It is a team and everyone had their part in this game. True, we had turnovers but fate wasn’t on our side. In OT, it was like a NEW GAME and we never had a chance to touch the football. Favre’s interception wasn’t returned for a TD or field goal. OT started and we didn’t pick the correct side of the coin. I don’t think the “Saints” deserved to win….all those low blow hits on Favre and taunting. I’m glad we finally did get to Brees to knock him down a few times. Favre will be lucky if his leg isn’t broken after being twisted like a rage doll. We played a better game even with all the turnovers….the clock just ran out on us. This is an emotional time….we had a chance and it isn’t because of one person that we lost. Being a fan means being a good sport….if you can’t bring dignity to this team–don’t bother posting your opinions.

    Still a Viking/Favre fan…until next year guys!!

Vikings got what they deserved when they ran up the score last week. Yes I’m a Cowboy fan but I’m a High school Coach and would never run the score up on anybody. I also heard Favre changed the play to throw it in the endzone. Must of been for all the losses to the Cowboys in Aikman’s era. Favre you got what you deserved and for Childress to watch him whine in the interview same goes for you. NO CLASS. I’m so glad the Saints won.

Although both Farve and AP had great years its clear from this game a change is needed if the vikings are to make the super bowl. First we need to cut Brett Farve and Look for a new QB say TIm Tebow in the upcoming draft. In terms of AP as shown by both this game and the second one veres the Bears that while he is a outstanding running back we wouldnt be able to come through in a clinch. What we need to do is trade him like the Dallas Cowboys traded Herschel Walker to non other then the vikings. They where able to grab both Emmitt Smith and Darren Woodson out of the trade through the draft. With the sucess of past drafts 2 first rounders could land both a new RB and a QB

All I got to say is the vikings was the better team in that game. The reason why is because the vikings did not do any of those cheap shots like the saints did. For example – the very late hit on Harvin during the return when he called for the fair catch and the about 5 sec. later he got hit or all the late deliberate hits on Farve to take him out of the game. The saints won because they are cheap shot artists trying to deliberatly take people out of the game at all costs. I hate to say it but the cowboys had better class then the saints did. I can not say to much else but we beat ourselves in that game with all the fumbles, interceptions. The cowboys want to say we are classless well I think it is the saints that are classless because they new they could not beat us without making deliberate hit on our guys. But like the cowboys, there is always next year. I really do hope they can get there act together with the fumbles next year. I also hope that Brett Farve still comes back for next year to take us all the way. I was not personally Brett’s fault we lost the TEAM messed up on a lot of plays that should not have.
To the saints like they say what goes around comes around. I really hope the colts take brees out of the game by hurting him really bad. GO COLTS now.

I’m having to much fun. But I have to get up early and am tired of all these lame excuses especially on a team that got taken by an old man kept your team in limbo and broke your heart with one last interception. To be honest Dallas needs to get rid of their owner to because I’m not sure we have the coach to take us to a Super Bowl either. See Vikings fans I’m at least honest about my team to. You beat us last week but 3rd and 1 first drive on your 30 yard line any coach would go for that in that situation to send a message for the day and we didn’t do it because Philipps cannot make tough decisions when needed.

This one can not be laid at the feet of a single bad pass by Farve. I mean who is the brilliant one who can’t count to 11…or 12 as it was…which gave us the stupid penalty in the last the minute of the game. The penalty which forced Farve into the position of needing to work a miracle. The same Farve who sucked it up and played on a bad ankle after a (cheap) hit somewhere earlier in the game. Where was our vaunted defense in the Saints OT possession? Oh yes, and then there’s the fabulous play calling….run AP left, run AP right then hope for a miracle. Is it any wonder the poor kid loses the ball as much as he does…if they go for him on 1st down, the opposing team has about a 95% chance of being right because Childress can’t seem to figure out there are other plays in the play book. And yes…a championship game…and we give it away with what was it? 6 fumbles? Perhaps if the Vikings want the fans to pay for a stadium, the owners might want to consider buying a coach that can manage the basics…like hanging on to the ball, the right number of men on the field and some imagination in the play calling. Brett, for what it’s worth, I think you are a fun and terrific player to watch and your sportsmanship puts an awful lot of folks to shame. Go home, heal….and thanks for the leadership you gave this team this year. Hope some of it rubbed off on our head coach.

Well, Brett got what he wanted. He played for the Viqueens. Burned a bunch of bridges on the way. Maybe the Viq’s would put him in the Ring of Fame in their new stadium, but he won’t be in ours’, if I have a say in it. That honor is for the greats that loved the game more than themselves.

Top of your game, Brett? Hmmm! Even a gunslinger is gonna look like a god with the likes of Berrian, Rice, Shiancoe, Petersen, Loadholt, Johnson, Longwell and Co. Do yourself a favor Viq’s. If you want waffles, go to IHOP. In the meantime, dust off Tavaris and give him the time he needs, get rid of Childress, and find a coach that can control his team.

It’s long past time for Forrest to cut grass! Don’t be fooled!

Funny….In life what comes around goes around. I am a Cowboys fan. You guys beat us. But Farve changed the play just to get even with Dallas. Even with all the battles the Boy’s had with Farve, I still respected him….until he pulled that classless stunt to run up the score. Jared allen laughed about it. He didn’t make a play against the Saints the whole game. You classless Vikes fans thought it was funny….how funny is it now? Cowboys forever!!!!!!!

Keep Chester, and fill in other weak spots. Have someone cast a lead football for the guys who fumble to carry around the first half of the week. I hope they can keep everyone, it has been sheer joy rooting for this team. I lost some admiration for the Saints, as it appeared the gameplan was to injure Brett play dirty and go high and low injurious hits, after he didn’t have the ball. I think I will not root for them in the superbowl after all.

Cowboy’s fan(s). You need to step back and consider this and not be consumed by the whining Brooking. Your ample defense was stuffing the run. You were run blitzing on every down. The Vikings would have run out the clock if you had been in prevent. The only open pattern was in the endzone. The TD was what the Dallas D was giving the Vikings. A very good D indeed, but that Day Minnesota looked good, just as they did this day. It coulda, shoulda been the Vikes and no one is hanging their head and whining.( I hope) Now to see what the NFL and courts do about Star and Caps, who were instrumental in turning down that offense.

I feel sad reading these comments. The Vikes have their issues…both players and coaches. Every team in the NFL has issues. We have players who have been entertaining to watch, who have played some fine games this year and have been a lot of fun to cheer for. Yes, I think our coaching could be far better. Yes I am disappointed that lack of attention to fundamentals like hanging on to the ball and the right number of men on the field cost us a chance to play in the Superbowl, but I still would like to thank the team for a fall filled with a lot of anticipation for Sunday afternoon to roll around. Congratulations on making it to the Division Title Game. I hope next year will be as good or better.
Blessings to all who worked hard to make the team a good one.

Saints won but there game plan was dirty. They blitz on every play and knocked Favre out every play. I felt that was a dirty way to play. But the 6 fumbles is why we lost. Please don’t blame Favre for the INT.

  139. By cowboysforlife on Jan 25, 2010 | Reply

That is usually what happens in super loud games….the timing of everything is off. The O line is off enough that when the center hikes the ball the D has the greater advantage. That’s why you saw Brett on the ground sooo much and that is why Romo was on the ground sooo much. When we beat the Saints we were lucky enough to get up 2 TD”s on them and really took the crowd of the game. Thats why towards the end they were coming back because the crowd got back in the game.. The crowds play in a big role in games.

I think that’s what disappointed me most about the Saints both this week and last. Yes, they kept the hits legal…mostly, but it was pretty obvious they were gunning for Kurt Warner and Brett, trying to take them out of the game. I think the Cowboys game and most of the other games we played this season were with teams far less focused on taking the quarterback down.

Having said that, I really believe that if there is a finger to be pointed in the Vikings loss tonight, it has to be pointed squarely at the Vikings themselves. Losing the turnover game in itself usually leads to a loss…and we did that big time tonight.

But I am just so tickled that I got to cheer for my team into the post season. I hope E.J Henderson recovers and can come back to the game and, speaking personally, if Brett feels physically able, I do love to watch him play and seeing him in purple was and is a thrill for this fan.

I’m listening to the radio shows and the hosts are only talking about Favre’s last INT. It was a bad throw but realistically the Vikings were fumbling the ball and we seen Adrian fumble the ball in OT against the bears and the penalty took them out of Field Goal range. I think Favre could’ve ran out at least 3 to maybe 6 yards but then they’re back to a 50 yarder and considering the fact that Favre had an ankle injury I doubt he wanted to run at all and knowing the Vikings they were gonna kill him if he even tried to run. I still believe the best option was to put the ball in Chester Taylor’s hand because he was the only Viking that wasn’t fumbling.

At the end of the day Viking fans we were the better team but we lost and we have the fumbles to blame so let’s not be too quick to jump on the “Favre’s a choke” bandwagon because he is still great and all the greats through INT. i.e. Jon Elway, Dan Marino.

He knows we are not happy with Favres fued with Ted Thompson. We never give him a hard time about the vikings, they are his team and he should support them. However, rubbing our noses in it as a guest in our state is uncalled for. So I am letting you vikings fans know that my neighbor is responsible for the loss and I will be playing catch with a number 12 jersey tomorrow morning in front of his house. Rodgers will be our QB for another 10 years at least and since he has the fastest start ever by an NFL 2nd year man, I’m guessing the vikings will be chasing the Packers for awhile. Turns out Ted Thompson did the only thing he could do…Not let Rodgers get away. Vikings – 1 NFL Championship, 0 Super Bowls—-Packers 12 World Championsips – 6 since the vikings have been in the league and 3 Super Bowls.

The vikings outplayed the Saints, dumb fumbles and some really questionable calls in OT, the pass interference wasn’t even close, Brees was throwing it away to avoid the sack. And the pass that got them the 1rst down, I paused that and saw the ball on the ground when he didn’t have control. I give props to Favre and Peterson, but NO didn’t play bad either, there offensive line did some good blocking, i think if they played that game again, it’d be 34-21 Vikings. Anyway, good luck Saints, you’re going to need it.

Wow , thought a lot more GB fans would of rubbed it in our face by now with the told you so’s . Take a moment to think about this all. We win one of those games, like the Chicago one and none of this is happening. The D did a great job tonight in the 2nd half on a team that is score happy. I’m about as mad as I was oh….11 years ago but back then it was a team choke. I love AP and the rest but he cost us. After the game brett in hind sight thought he should of run the ball. That little voice in his head was me shouting as lould as I could at the TV. Gues it wasn’t lould enough. Yes the OT was complete BS with the pass int. and the so called catch. Should of never came to that. NEVER. Starting from the Bush fumble we could of taken the game right there. No clue what next year holds, don’t really care right now. This one hurts, not as bad as 98 cause then I actually thought we had it for sure, but when I saw we were on the 40 I thought omg, they are going to pull this off. Silly me.

I’m not saying that the Saints are out of it, there Defense and Offensive line really impressed me though, but if the Colts play like the Vikes offense played minus the turnovers, New Orleans is in trouble.

I’m sorry Saints did not deserve this win. You guys didn’t play like how you played in the regular season offensively. The saints know they got away with one just like how jets got away with one against the Chargers. The Chargers turned over the ball too many teams. And even the Vikings got away with one week 5 or 6 when they faced Baltimore but hey It’s football. Would’ve love to see the old man in the super bowl one more time but this team needs to practice on HOLDING the ball TACKLING and getting INTERCEPTION. Vikings D are always in position for interceptions but they can’t make the play

Statistically, no they were not. They won and that’s all that matters but take away the fumbles and this would’ve either been a two touchdown lead for the vikes or possibly 3. But we can’t live in the “what ifs” But even NFL Network stated the better team lost today. The home field wasn’t even a factor for the Vikings. No false starts.

  199. By GOvikes111 on Jan 25, 2010 | Reply

I would love to be completely non-bias here, but that’s not gonna happen. But beleive me, i talked to some cowboy loving and vikings-hating fans who agreed those were BS calls. I think most of the NFL world knows who played the better game, but it doesn’t seem to matter. The Saints got the win. It happens, the better team loses, it’s just to bad it had to be the NFC champinship game that it happened on. Taking the statistical facts, yes NO had the #1 offense, but Vikes had the #2 offense and the #2 defense, all in all, the vikings had a better year.

The cowbois fans still show how they are some of the most classless in the entire NFL. Brett Favre is a warrior. Everyone who talks S*** about him has no room to speak unless they’ve been pounded into the turf 15 times only to get up, add some tape, and fight on….like he has over close to 20 years. There is a lot of talent on the team and I hope they have a lot of success in the futre. I also hope Brett retires and is able to spend some quality time with his family. Despite all the mistakes, he is going to carry that one to the grave. At the end of the day…..it’s only football.

yes us cowboy fans are still complaining about that junk. The cowboys played their worst game of the year against the Viking. Some of that was the Vikings. I’m not gonna deny that. But on here tonight All I keep seeing is how the refs gave the game to NO and how the Vikings had their way with them. 28 points in regulation is not having your way with anybody. 3 points like the Vikings did to the cowboys is having your way with the other team. No the saints didn’t run the score up, but if like alot of viking fans are writing, the viking were the better team and had their way with NO, then why are you sitting at home just like us before the SB. KARMA like we all keep telling you guys. Now I don’t usually go on other team sites, but we had alot of Viking fans on our site talking garbage after you guys won. Remember we did beat the Saints.

The whole game had me sitting on the ege of my seat yet I was not happy with the outcome. I think everyone would agree that the Vikes did not play their best game (although I thought the D played exceptionally). However, I am a Minnesota Vikings fan and I appreciate the season they gave us. Reaching the NFC championship is no small feat. I hope that everyone returns next year for another great season. I appreciate all of the big plays to get some thrilling wins all season long. You really have to bring your best (and minimize your errors) on the road in the playoffs. Teams like Indy and New Orleans got in, and you have to be impressed with how their seasons have been playing out. I’m think all you can ask of an organization and team is to put themselves in a position to compete and win. The only problem is even as your own team improves your opponents are after the same greatness.

Football is a game of field position, ball security and collisions. Unfortunately, the Saints took better care of the ball than we did. Despite the loss, it has been a fun season to watch the Vikings. Brett Favre made a huge difference this year. I really envy the Green Bay Fans that got to have him for 16 years. Despite the mistakes in the NFC Championship, he has been fun to watch this season. I hope he comes back but I would totally understand if he didn’t. Hopefully this season will have done enough to get the politicians in Minnesota to keep the Vikings in Minnesota. No matter how many times my heart gets broken, I will still be a die hard Vikings fan for life!

Let me take you all to school for a minute.Minnesota outplayed N.O. that is obvious by the fact that they had 5 turnovers and were STILL…I REPEAT STILL in excellent position to win the game. But own the loss. Favre threw a BACKBREAKING SEASON ENDING INT,Period. That was an EPIC FAIL choke, and like it or not Brett did it and he IS TO BLAME for that dumba*s decision. No way a 19 year vet should do that in that situation. The interference was a bad call but so was the roughing call on Favre. Bad calls happen, deal with it. You have to overcome that to win and they ALMOST did. You got exactly what you asked for in Favre, a supremely hyped QB who throws picks AT THE ABSOLUTE WORST possible times…and you are upset because you thought it was “destiny” that you win. Nah, none of that just more vintage Favre. Eli Manning (underrated QB) has as many rings as Favre and I trust him more than Brett in a big game scenario. Minnesota lost because they left their A game at MOA field. Vikes had the QB who throws more INT’s than anyone on history and a RB who fumbles more than anyone in the game. I’d let AP go in a minute for a TRUE big game RB that holds the ball. You never saw Emmitt Smith or Walter Payton do that…and thats why the man is not as great as Vikes fans think. 12 men in the huddle? Vikings lost the game because of stupidity, errors, and a lack of mental toughness, VINTAGE MN VIKINGS….thats why they have lost 5 NFC championships in a row and 4 superbowls…you have a good team…but not good enough to finish. Stop placing blame and own the loss..you don’t cry about bad calls and turnovers when it benefits the Vikes do you?…didn’t think so….

    Vikings,

This has by far been one of the best seasons that you have played. There was an awesome match up in the dome with ‘THE’ catch of this franchise, then there were the games we just lost steam. Either way, I look forward to next season. It’s a heartbreaking lost but TRUE…I mean TRUE Vikings fans just don’t give up on their players and team! We’ve got work to do that’s true, but learning from your mistakes is the only way to get better.

AP, you had a good season. It’s disappointing not to have those 150+ yard games, but those holes will break through for you next year.

Da boys! Good Job on Defense. We had those unfortunate plays, but when it really counted you were there to stop them or drop ‘em!

Brett, I know you came back for a reason, but it won’t die in vain. I know you’re pretty banged up from last night, you’ve got a heavy heart. It’s okay champ!! You’ve proven alot to all the skeptics out there and even on this blog with some of those bandwagon Vikes ‘Fans’. You’ve brought back the excitement to this empowering Vikings team.

Rest up and think about this past season, NOT just about last night! You’ve had CAREER low INT rates, more followers than the Packers. It’s a loss of words why that elusive Lambardi Trophy keeps missing the front office trophy case, but it’s only been by the tips of our fingers.

Even though that trophy would mean the world to all the REAL Vikings fans, we’ve got one of many on our team.

Lastly, Brett you’ve been a breath of fresh air to this team, state and country. You’ve given us one of the most wild seasons of your career, we should all be thankful for it. You’ve gotten thrown down to the ground numerous times, but you always got up without showing any sign of discomfort. IF this is your last season(but we’re always hoping for one more)…retire as a VIKING! Your name and number in our ring of honor, will mean more than any shiny piece of metal.

Until next year Chilly, until next year…

I am glad teams who have had worse years this year than the Vikings, like the Packers and The Cowboys, have fans who can delude themselves into superiority. Come back when both of your teams get a little more competitive. New Orleans fans have reason to celebrate the win, but do it in style and focus on your next opponent and be sure to not let them score 28 points if you want to win a Super Bowl.

I need to defend Brett for a second. 1. He is no where near the most intercepted QB when you look at percentages. He is only a fraction of a percent worse than Elway, Marino, and other Hall of Famers and better than Bradshaw, Hadl, Tarkenton and the worst of all time George Blanda. Neil O’Donnel is the best, would you rather have his career or Brett’s. 2. Crucial interceptions happen cause you have crucial situations. He got you to that spot. He gets there regualarly. Look at the unbeleivable throws that have been completed that should not have been thrown. If he doesn’t connect on the final SF game pass, Vikings may have lost division crown, and played first week. 3. It’s a team sport. Steve Young in the Tampa Bay couldn’t carry the team. Give him a great defense and a Hall of Fame receiver and he wins a Super Bowl. Does anyone think Dan Marino isn’t one of the best cause he hasn’t won a Super Bowl. By that thinking Trent Dillfer is better than McNabb and Marino, and Jim Plunkett is better than Manning and Steve Young. Don’t get me started on Brad Johnson and Mark Rypien. Brett may be, because of his success (Green Bay winningest team in NFL during Favre’s tenure) and his durability, ( going on Triple the previous QB record for consecutive starts) and his passion and arm strength, the greatest football player ever. Think of it, Jerry Rice and Jim Brown only touched the ball on10% and 30% of the time respectivly and didn’t play every down. The guy has nothing to prove, he now has to convince himself that. Great year Brett, I knew you had it in you!

By the way, I am one of the biggest Favre fans, but no one is bigger than the most storied and decorated franchise in professional football. Brett behaved badly and is just as much to blame for the Green Bay exit. But like a naughty little boy, we will forgive him and pack the streets of Canton in 5 years.

Also, true Vikings fans, here’s a tip from Animal House…”Sit on that zoo fraternity”. It’s the bad traveling viking fans and bloggers who bring the worst out of other teams fans. As a season ticket holder in 3 sports, I rank the Chicago Cub Fans the worst followed by Cowboys, Vikings, Bears, Twins and the Yankees. Even Philly fans don’t trash other fans, they trash their own team. Shut them down and you will get less grief from the Central America’s Team (Cowboys)

The better team lost. Plain and simple. A touchdown for the Saints that they did not earn, 5 turnovers, most at times when we were about to score, and suspect officiating, all combined to creat a loss for the Vikings. It was a team loss. No one person lost the game. Fumbles by more than one player, mistakes by coaches, the quarterback, and players, and STILL being tied at the end of the game? Wow! Yes, the better team lost. I fully expect to see the Colts take the Saints apart. I fervently hope that ALL current players come back next year as we and they have left the job undone. It needs to be finished and finished in true Viking style with a win In Dallas, February, 2011! Mike the Vike in IOWA!

It was a great effort by the Vikings. They all played a hard until the very end. I am very proud of all the Viking players. I have been a fan since 1984 when I was born and I have pictures to prove it. I have never been so proud of a team. Yes, I was very frustrated about the outcome of the game last night against the siants, but seriously how can you win a football game with 8 total turnovers. All I have to say is I can’t wait for next year to come. Resign whoever has to get resigned, Favre stays for another year and we will come out on top. I have faith in the Minnesota Vikings. A true fan will always be by their side. Great job this season Minnesota. We Will get them next year.

If you ever played any sport or have any sense of reality you can hopefully objectively digest what you saw with class. Minnesota would not have been playing this week against NO if Farve had not been their QB. That team got there because of him making each of his teammates believe. Manning threw 2 picks against Baltimore but they got called back. Brady threw 2 picks against at Baltimore. Great quarterbacks throw INT. I know it didn’t help us throwing that last INT but this is not Favre’s fault. Too many fumbles guys.

  288. By Former Packer's Fan on Jan 25, 2010 | Reply

Let’s analyze this game clearly and look at the pluses and the minuses without the silly hype.

First, turnovers made the difference. You can’t fumble the ball 6 times in a game and expect to win. They lost 3 of them; two in the red zone. That means they gave up anywhere from 6-14 points on those two errors alone.

Second, in total yardage, execution, time of possession, and defensive stops, the Vikings “schooled” the Saints. They out passed them; they out ran them; and they out sacked them.

Third, coaching mistakes. There is no excuse for the 12 men in the huddle penalty that probably cost the Vikings the game. It came after a time out. The coaches should have known exactly who was to go out onto the field. Also, the play call which resulted in the botched snap between Favre and Peterson was a mistake. It was 2nd down. The had run unsuccessfully on 1st down. They should have changed it up and did play action or had Favre roll out and spread the defense. They were on the six, not the one. Had they done that and Favre found someone open in the end zone, it would have changed the whole game from that point. The Vikes would have been up by 14 at half!

Fourth, The defense was good against the run, but fell down in two other critical areas. Their pass rush was nothing like it was against Dallas. Brees was given far too much time. Maybe Edwards was more hurt than he let on, but they didn’t pressure like they can. Also, the secondary failed to make two plays that should have been interceptions. They both would have changed the game. The last one was in overtime and would have put the ball in the Vikes hands on their own 40. Had that play been made, they probably would have won.

Fifth, this was the worst refereeing of all of this year’s playoffs. The four obvious mistakes they made were: 1). the NO touchdown when the guy was clearly down on the one. 2). The non-call on the tackle to Farve’s legs – a clear penalty under the “Brady rule”. It would have negated Favre’s first interception and kept their drive alive. 3). The OT pass interference call on Greenway when he never even touched the receiver. An, it was on a ball that was thrown out-of-bounds! It was on a 3rd down play and would have resulted in a NO punt. 4). The failure to review the pass that touched the ground – also in OT. Once again, it set up NO to continue its drive. I don’t want to accuse the refs of “fixing the game”, but I sure hope none of these guys gets to do the Superbowl!!!!!

Sixth, Favre was both good and bad. He did keep bringing the Vikes back despite the mistakes. He had some amazing 3rd and long conversions to keep drives alive. There is no doubt in my mind that the Saints pass rush had put a bounty on him. They took 2 clear roughing penalties and should have been called for 2 more. That was pretty classless on their part. The O-line did a good job in protection otherwise. Farve’s passing was a bit off though, especially early. His final interception will be debated for years, but he should have never been in the position to have to make that play. The stupid penalty on 3rd down pushed them out of field goal range. Yes, his pass was errant. He should have never thrown it. But, he didn’t have as much running room as they said either. He was working with a sprained ankle. Also, there was a NO linebacker just 10 yards down the field from him. If he tucks the ball in and runs, he gets maybe 3 -5 yards – possibly back to the original line of scrimmage.

There is no doubt in my mind that the Vikes can come back next year and win it all if a few things fall into place. First, Favre needs to come back for one more year. His numbers this year prove he still is one of the best QBs in the league. Second, they need to shore up the secondary. This is their biggest weakness. Third, they need to work with Peterson in the off-season to correct the “fumble-itis.” He still can be great if he can just hold onto the ball. Forth, they need to do all they can to hold onto Chester Taylor. He is a crucial part to their attack and is far under-rated.

Remember, if they hold onto the ball and the refs are competent, they would have won this game by two or three scores – in the noise of the Superdome!! Not bad, not bad at all!

  289. By Nate F. on Jan 25, 2010 | Reply

The only bad call I seen was the pass interference and Ben Leber in the Over Time but I don’t think the ref’s had a role in the game. FUMBLES and TURNOVERS killed us. If we scored those two times in the red zone that would have been 42 points for the Vikes

Questionable officiating, whatever. Was that Leiber or Greenway that had a ball ricochet off his hands in overtime which would have given the Vikings the ball? Good teams/players make plays when put in position, that was a missed opportunity.

I’ve been a proud Vikings fan since 1992. This is the second time I’ve seen my team totallychoke in an NFC championship game. We moved the ball up and down the field and shut down the #1 offense in football. Five turnovers??? You have to be kidding me. People are saying that Brett didn’t lose that game…he didn’t win it either. Farve should have run the ball on that last interception and I think he could have made it to at least the 35 (a 3 yard gain!), even on the bad leg. I would have liked for Longwell to have had a chance at a 52 yard field goal at the end of regulation. Don’t get me wrong; I applaud the team’s effort, and Brett Farve earned a great deal of respect from me for the beating he took. I am still a proud Vikings fan! I’m hoping we can get that Super Bowl championship within my lifetime.

Let’s not blame Favre or the refs. Kluwe could’nt make that FG anyways his range is not in the 50′s. And packers i understand you’re happy but I remember Rodgers throwing an INT on his first play and fumbling on his last play to lose the game.
    .
    .
.I’m not rooting for the Colts because I think the WHOLE league is on Manning’s d*ck. Take away that O line and he can’t do anything. Even jamarcus Russell would dominate with a line like that. Saints didn’t deserve this win considering how we outplayed them but Vikings didn’t deserve this win either with all of the fumbles. Saints go ahead and bring that championship home for your city I think that will help while you’re all still rebuilding your city. It was a fun game to watch

A lot has been said about poor officiating in this game while also bringing up Rodgers int and fumble on the Packer’s last plat of the game. Have not heard one word about the helmet to helmet hit on Rodgers (third from the last play of the game) in which the NFL levied a fine for or the face mask on the fumble. Apparently bad officiating only applies to the Vikings when they LOSE :)

I agree with the non Viking fans. We shouldn’t blame the refs for this one. Up until the final play in the Fourth quarter I believe we only had 3 or 4 penalties and they were all defensive penalties. The 12th man in the huddle was sooooo stupid. And that led for the call to throw which led to the INT. Keep in mind we seen Peterson fumble in situations like this so I understand the call but it was a poor throw from favre. I don’t think he wanted to run on that bad ankle because Saints were gonna kill him if he tried to and I bet he was thinking that and how was he going to be able to play next week.

And where’s the blog pertaining to this loss? Did you guys abandon the site? I know it hurts but come on. After we dominated Dallas the blog was up in a matter of seconds

  305. By m. andre on Jan 25, 2010 | Reply

I’ll give New Orleans credit for stopping the run in the final Vikings drive before the need to go to overtime. Especially after the penalty, it put added pressure to come up with some yards and Farve wouldn’t naturally think to get that on the ground himself, so the interception was thrown. And ultimately a Saints win and a tough loss. There are many reasons for the loss and it really is a huge disappointment. I’m still glad to have enjoyed a lot of great football thanks to the Vikings this season. The salt-in-the-wounds comments by other team’s fans are lame.

O.K. I’ve had a night to sleep on it. What a heartbreaker. We dominated the Saints but they still made great plays to cause those fumbles. However, we still had several chances to put the game away and have no one to blame but ourselves. A couple of bad calls but still, championship teams find a way to pull it off. We should have had that int at the end of the game and 12 men in the huddle was brutal. One thing I have learned is that Brett Favre is one tough M.F. He made a bad play but I would like to take back my earlier comments and say how impressed I was with his desire and guts. I understand everybody is upset and unhappy. I still feel ripped off again somehow. We F#$%@** were the better team and should have won but somehow we always find a way to F it up. What makes me the most sick to my stomach is the loser cowboy fans coming in here trash talking. What a joke and embarrassment they are. I still think the Vikings window is open and we will have another shot next year. Like I said before…the only thing that comes from Texas is Steers and Q u e e r s! Congratulations to all the Saints fans. You guys have to know you were a little bit lucky but Congrats anyway. Maybe it’s destiny. I think the Colts are going to destroy you in Miami if you play like that again though. Reggie Bush tried his best to lose that game for you. He needs to play better for sure. Good Luck! Who Dat? And 12 men in the huddle…come on man….this is the NFL

But don’t blame the refs….they put a hit on favre and get a penalty…..same hit on Brees and no penalty…it’s football, oh well.

He needs to come back and finish what he started. As I’ve said on other posts that last pick was just as much Rice’s fault for just standing there like he was stuck in mud. That gave the db time to just step infront for the pick.

I think it’s funny how stupid cowboys fan are taking such pleasure in this loss cuz brett favre scored that extra touchdown, hey cowgirl fans, we still kicked your butts and made it to the NFC champinship game, maybe you’ve done it alot in the pass, but tell me this, how many of those same Cowboy players are still on the team since you last made it to the NFC championship game? Exactly, so shut it you 34-3 losing chokers. And Favre is ten times the quarterback Romo will ever be.

Johnny grubbs, your just bitter cuz the vikings knocked out your excuse of a team like they were playing a high school team, you don’t have squat, you don’t have a ring, the cowboys do…well actually the old cowboys do, and if the vikings are loser this year, i guess that’d make cowboys horrible loser who wuck so bad they got beat by losers, have fun watching your team go 0-16 next year, but hey, there’s always the year after that. which every cowboy fan will tell themselves until there old and grey and don’t like football anymore. Vikings forever, way to play a great year !

  328. By DCfaninDE on Jan 25, 2010 | Reply

Brett needs to retire. What he did to your fans/franchise this year was wrong. Making you all think he could get you a ring. He proved that he can not handle it anymore physically or mentally. How did the Saints play dirty? It’s the NFL if you’re too old then get young or go home. Not only did he make a fool of himself but your entire team last wknd by acting like a 4 yr old instead of a 40 yr old.

How many Vikings does it take to win a super bowl? Nobody knows & we may never find out.

Whats the difference between a dollar bill & Farve? You can still get 4 quarters out of a dollar bill.

    COWBOYS FAN BABY!!!!!

the dirtyaint’s hit to many people after the play like for instance Brett Favre after the running play and how about that hit on Percy Harvin when he caught the return and after calling for a far catch and being down on one knee about 5 seconds later he gets hit and you can not say because he could not hear the whistle blow because he does have 2 EYES to se the signal for a fair catch. There was way too many late hits on the DIRTYAINT”S part need I explain more.

  330. By Brad Karkiainen on Jan 25, 2010 | Reply

for the cowboy fans go to your own teams page or better yet go to the DirtyAint’s page and get some trojan viruses

5 seconds later really?? he had some respect but, if he comes back next yr my guess is he prob won’t have as much so he’ll prob face more games like that. I see your fans found your own blog this wk.

  333. By Nate F. on Jan 25, 2010 | Reply

I don’t want to make excuses but there were some clean hits against the quarterback and then there were some late ones. Saints did play to knock out the QB because they know that was their best way to win. We seen them knock out Kurt Warner out the game. I hope Peyton Manning watches the Saints last two games because they will be trying to end his career early as well.

I’m not a colts fan but I don’t want the cinderella story falling for the Saints. Should’ve been us but oh well. Next year Sage better step up and T Jack

Go away CRYBOYS fans! If you wanted to run out the clock, then your defense should not have been playing all out! If you stuff the run everytime, then to maintain possession, the Vikings had to throw. You cannot expect a team to turn the ball over when they are trying to run out the clock. If all they wanted were points the short field goal would have been the running up the score option. If you blanket every pattern but the one in the endzone, then your defense dictated that outcome. And sure players are happy when they win a playoff, especially if all the talking heads were against them. I am surprised Broioks even came back on camera. I’ll give you this you have a very talented team, but it is not America’s team. It’s your team.

Texas is not America, it is after all a whole–nother country. And the game the Vikings lost, was a great game. Not that the Cowboys loss wasn’t great to watch.

This is an open letter to Brett Favre to help make him realize that retirement is not a good option!

First, Brett Favre your the epitome of a person that strives to learn, moves forward and battles to conquer his demons as you grow through life’s learned lessons both on and off the field.

Brett , you may not realize it, but, you have un-intentionally given yourself a second life as a starting quarter back in the NFL that could have you playing another 2-4 years of not good, but
    GREAT football!!!

First you have a great coach and management team with the Vikings organization that not only appreciates your ability, (unlike what you were getting from the Packers organization in your final few years), but they understand how you think and what matters to you. You also has a GREAT young bunch of super talented guys around you, Your Team Mates, which are as hunger for the Super Bowl Championship Ring as
you are, if not before the lose definitely now more after the lose.

Brett, you said it yourself in an interview not to long ago that to win, “it’s the chemistry of the right players at the right time of the moment” which is very finite. Well, this is the moment, but unbeknownst to you Brett, this
first year with the Vikings is just the start of what’s to come. Sometimes when things are happening in ones life that’s going great, (“better then one could hope for”) the euphoria one experiences can give them
the sense of “this is it”, which can and does happen to most people who experience this and then they stop, and give up on the fact that maybe it’s only the beginning of something more, much more!

I know it’s easy to sit here and write what I think, it’s not what I think, it’s what I know!

Listening to you Brett over the season on how your were feeling and how you felt from week to week not only mentally but physically, Brett you did not feel your age! Brett as you stated “I felt the best in years”.
Brett you felt reenergized, and it showed. You played like a 30 year old veteran in his prime, not some 40+ year old trying to recapture his by gone glory years. Brett you know more then anybody that you have
more to give, you learnt more about the game and more about yourself this last season.

There is no doubt that during the NFC Championship game you felt your age (maybe a little older then your age), but anyone who took the pounding that you did Brett, would too. Just ask Kurt Warner and Tony Romo how old they felt in there loses?

But there is something more to why your not finished with the game that has given you so much, and what you Brett, have given so much to the game! And that’s something that only you know!

There is no doubt that you may want to retire Brett. I know what it’s like to try and make a decision and not be 110% sure whether the decision is right until you’ve made it. Only once
you’ve committed to a decision will you know if it is the right decision. Because what ever the decision it is that you make when you make it, only if it STICKS without any, and I mean ANY regret, only then
will you know that you made the right decision.

Before you make that decision, DON”T short change yourself. This is a once in a life time opportunity that almost nobody gets in their life time, ever, and you have it right in your hands for the second time.

It’s better to try, and fail then to say NO! There is never regret in ones trying and failing, because you pushed on. But saying NO to not just any opportunity, but this opportunity that is here and now, and yours to make your own, that is a regret that time could never heal.

If your decision is retirement, I’m sure that I’m not the only one hoping for it not to stick! I’m sure everyone in Minnesota (including myself) will be hoping right up until the kick-off of the first regular season game
    that it doesn’t stick.

Hope to see you on the playing field.

From you biggest fan in Canada,
    Wes

Honestly I would have pulled for the Vikings till they ran the score up. You can make all the excuses you want but kneel the ball and be professional and don’t jump around like a little cheerleader after the score. If he does comeback the Dallas game will be his last game because they will be head hunting after his little show. You were lucky you got the game at home because Minnesota has proved they can’t play on the road. They weren’t trying knock Farve out it was a joke on the roughness call on Farve that was a clean hit. Enjoy the Super Bowl Vikes because you will never win one and no don’t put Farve in with those other guys (Montana, Aikman even Elway) they all won multiple super bowls not just one.

I need to clarify not the first penalty on the reverse I’ll give you that one but the second one was a joke

Lynn You must be Moab 73s wife(sister), samething! Were going to kick your crybaby ASS again next year, so get over it ! The score is still the same, VIKINGS34- Gay cabaleros3.

Chill pill TW Vike. You guys will never make the Super Bowl you had to pull a grandfather off the streets to get where you did. So get used to watching from the sidelines because it’s the only way you will be able to enjoy the big game. Favre did run up the score because of past butt kickings against the Cowboys so if that made her day then good for her. The way he played against the Saints the Cowboys were his Super Bowl. Maybe he can be a Vikings cheerleader next year.

Lynn- Favre would still beat Americas team, pom-poms down! And by the way the Lions or Rams would have gave us a better game! We didnt run up the score, you just couldnt stop us! Say hi to Big D & Moab 73 for me. Its still Vikings34-Losers3. SORRY!

    Tuesday Morning Quarterback,on His Favreness…

“Hamartia. The ‘tragic flaw’ described by Aristotle: A leader cannot control his own inner shortcoming, which causes him to achieve the reverse of what he desired. In ‘Antigone,’ the king, Creon, tells himself he is acting in the interest of the city, when actually he is acting to glorify his own ego — this hamartia destroys him. Favre comes up a bit short of a character in ancient Thebes, but on Sunday he was brought low by hamartia all the same. It was not enough for Favre’s team to reach the Super Bowl, he had to get the credit. All he needed to do was run a few yards, hook-slide, call timeout, and the Vikings’ kicker, Ryan Longwell, had a chance to win the game. But the credit had to go to Favre; he had to throw a spectacular pass at the end, so television announcers would swoon. So he heave-hoed a dramatic across-the-field pass. It was intercepted, and the Saints won in overtime.”

Hey, Bart Fever, we’ll never forget you.

I love getting people fired up. I’m sorry you will continue to root for a team that does nothing but break ya’lls heart and will never win a Super Bowl. Unfortunately you caught the Cowboys on a bad day just like the Saints caught ya’ll on a bad day. If we would have run the ball more against ya’ll I think we could have wore ya’ll down we were running the ball really well until pass happy garrett got carried away. If we would have scored those first two possesions I think it is a different game. I’m not bitter on here I’m just having fun. Don’t get so upset

  343. By TW Vike on Jan 28, 2010 | Reply

Lynn- If we would not have turned the ball over, we would be in the superbowl ! WOW,never thought of it that way! If we would have scored the 2 times inside the Saints 10 yard line, instead of fumbling, we would have WON ! Brilliant! Thanx for opening my eyes.
