Winfield Named To Pro Bowl Squad

Posted by Mike Wobschall on January 19, 2010 – 9:24 am

Vikings CB Antoine Winfield was named to the NFC’s Pro Bowl roster, giving the team 10 all-stars this season.

Although he missed 6 games with a foot injury, Winfield still tied for the team lead with 9 passes defensed and he registered 58 tackles. This year’s Pro Bowl nod for #26 is his 2nd consecutive and it makes him the 1st Vikings CB to earn back-to-back Pro Bowl honors since Carl Lee did it in 1989 and 1990.

The Vikings 10 Pro Bowl players this season is the most a Vikings team has had since the 1998 squad also sent 10 after going 15-1 and advancing to the NFC Championship Game.

Cardinals CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie was originally on the Pro Bowl roster but I’m guessing the knee injury he incurred in last weekend’s Divisional Playoff game against the New Orleans Saints will preclude him from playing in the Pro Bowl and thus opened up a spot for Winfield.

Good for Antonie — after missing 6 games I’m not %100 he earned it, but his level of play is worthy.

Its nice that Saints Fans arent talking garbage on every single article this week… Maybe we can have a strong, competive, but fun game for the ages.

Good for Winfield. I personally say that he earned it. After missing six game & coming back with the intensity that he always brings to our games, I feel it as heart warming! We’ll most def. need him this Sunday against the Saints. Our “D” was pretty much domination against Dallas, hopefully we’ll produce those same numbers; offensivly & defensivly & hey, who knows? Maybe our boys will lke the nice Miami wather. Purple & Gold till I grow old! Skol!

He missed 6-games with a injury and he’s still hurt. Well now Adrian has some company in the I don’t deserve it selection!

I agree that Winfield hasn’t earned it this year, espescially with all of the top end corners out there. But Adrian setting a new record for team TDs makes a huge argument in his favor. Just because he wasn’t breaking new records in every category isn’t nearly enough to exclude him.
