Injury Update On Cowboys Backfield

Posted by Mike Wobschall on January 11, 2010 – 1:40 pm

Fans attending and watching next weekend’s Divisional Round playoff game at Mall of America Field between the Vikings and Cowboys will see a quintet of talented RBs going to work.

That’s assuming injury concerns don’t get in the way.

Injuries shouldn’t be an issue for the Vikings, as both Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor were able to take several days off during the team’s bye week.

But the Cowboys, coming off back-to-back games against division rival Philadelphia, have a couple of issues they’ll be monitoring this week.

Dallas has a trio of effective RBs at their disposal – Marion Barber III is the team’s workhorse but both Felix Jones and Tashard Choice have been productive and effective for the Cowboys this season. Barber is dealing with a knee injury that forced him to miss the final 3 quarters of last week’s Wild Card win over the Eagles and Choice was knocked out of the game as well when he took a big hit from an Eagles defender in the 4th quarter.

According to this blog entry from’s Matt Mosley, however, it sounds as if both Barber and Choice will play on Sunday.

We’ll know more about the health of all the RBs mentioned above on Wednesday, when both the Vikings and Cowboys are required to submit the week’s first injury report.

yeah right the vikings are going to finish strong of course you got Brett Favre on your team do the math 2nd defense in the league stopping the run and you got best secondary in the backfield antoine winfield. percy harvin rookie of the year figure it out Vikings win 27-10.

We, the Vikings Nation, look forward to this matchup. Sure, the Cowboys are playing football, but that’s what they’re payed to do…the Vikes also get paid to do it, and we love to do it as well.
Bring it. That’s all. Just Bring It.
    J. Allen, B. Farve, A. Peterson…..not one of us cringe at the thought of the Cowboys. Just show up and we will take your best shot then hit you square in the mouth. Sunday can’t get here fast enough.

COWBOYS injury Update AFTER this weekend’s game: bruised egos, sidelined dreams, wounded pride, etc

tomdawg: We’re bringing it! I’m looking forward to an awesome game. Allen is great, but Flozel Adams will do a good job on him (when he doesn’t false start, of course). Since we’re playing Peterson, Coach Phillips has had our defense working a lot of recovering fumbles. He is a stud, but he’s not good handling the rock.

First I’d like to say, I am glad that the LOWLIFE teams are out of the playoffs (you know who they are)and that the storied playoff situation between the Cowboys and Vikings has been resumed , after a long hiatus. With that said, I believe that we are as physical as the Vikings are, maybe at this point even more-so. In any event, if the Cowboys win that will of course be great. But I would be rooting for the Vikings if they beat us anyway because y’all have never won the big one and I have no hatred towards your team or your organization. BUT………………

    Cowboys 27

    Vikings 17

thats my prediction for this weekend.

Romo from “WISCONSIN” will be beaten by his life long IDOL Mr. Number 4.
That MAY help ease some of the pain that number “69″ will be laying on him.
The Vikings have more players in this years pro-bowl than any other NFL
team. No way will the cowboys win this one…. sorry.

I think people are forgetting a big factor. Mall Of America Field is frigging loud. Yeah i’m sure jerryworld is too, but it gets crazy in Mall Of America Field. Plus, the cowboys aren’t going to be able to double team the Vikes recievers with Peterson and Taylor in the backfield. They were able to do that to the Eagles because the Eagles didn’t have a running game. I think it will be close, but the 12th man will be too much.

The Cowboys only allowed 250 points this season, which is the second-lowest total in the league. Phillips has a healthy respect for Vikings quarterback Brett Favre, but right now he’s willing to bet on his defense. that’s a pretty safe bet.

The Dallas Cowboys are the team you didn’t want to face.

    1) The Giants had nothing to play for against the Vikings the last game of the year because they were eliminated from playoff contention the weekend before.

    2) Mall of America field is going to be loud. Come on, gimme a break! And you think the Superdome down in New Orleans a few weeks ago wasn’t loud? We’re talking about a stadium just a couple miles away from the entertainment district where people booze it 24/7. It was a raucous environment – and Dallas jumped out to an early lead and DOMINATED the previously undefeated Saints.

    3) Aside from beating GB twice who have the Vikings beat this year? Only 2 other opponents with a winning record.) Again, congratulations for whooping up on this cakewalk of a schedule.

    Cleveland (5-11)

    Detroit (2-14)

San Francisco (8-8) *easily could have lost this game at home*

    St Louis (1-15)

Baltimore (9-7) *easily could have lost this game at home*

    Seattle (5-11)

    Chicago (7-9)

    Cincinnati (10-6)

New York (8-8) *team had nothing to play for*

    4) This absurd idea that Jared Allen is going to get to Tony Romo similar to the way he harassed Aaaron Rodgers. Ummm, he’ll be matched up against a WAY better offensive lineman this time, a guy by the name of Flozell Adams not Steve Tauscher.

    5) And last but not least, a little tidbit from you Vikes rubes might enjoy seeing.

“Anthony Spencer, the outside ‘backer who plays opposite Ware, is on a tear (five sacks in the past three games) and he has a very favorable matchup against rookie Phil Loadholt, who is a good run blocker but inconsistent against athletic pass rushers.”

Enjoy the one-and-done postseason Vikings hicks. I’ll be at the dome Sunday proudly defending the star while personally witnessing my Cowboys advance to the NFC championship.

One more thing, Brett Favre is 0-3 against Cowboys in the postseason.

Been around this rodeo a few years, and I understand that every year is a different season with a different mix of players, and that superbowls that were won 10 to 15 years ago are as meaningless to an opportunity to win one this year, as the fact that it had been a while since Dallas won their last playoff game. (of course that changed Saturday) This is a pay me now or I’ll play somewhere else next year league, thats how you got your current quarterback. I just like to stir individuals like yourself into a frenzy and see if you will resort to name calling…… I win!!! Hope you team is as easy to distract.

Please allow a Cowboys fan to simply say he’s hoping for a great game, in the classic sense, that only 2 organizations with the kind of histories as ours have can deliver. The real tragedy would be if either quarterback got hurt (UT – Colt McCoy) and the chance for something special be lost…

  85. By T on Jan 12, 2010 | Reply

I am a Cowboy fan… I was born there. I have read all of the trash talk from both sides on this board… and, I have to say, its pretty disgusting. The Vikes have a very solid team this season, or did before their late season swoon. Dallas is coming in with the hot hand.

One key factor in this game, that most Vike fans are looking past is Brett Favre. His last game against this exact lineup 2 years ago was very forgetable, and he also has a very poor history against this organization. The numbers dont lie.

That being said, if Brett does come out hot, and seems on target, I will say that Dallas might not be able to keep up.

But, honestly, I seriously think you Vike fans need to be a little more realistic about this game and your chances. I have to say though, the winner of this game should definately be repping the NFC in the SB.

Still, they managed to embarrass NE. True, I don’t expect Dallas to collapse like that at all in a playoff game, but it goes to show you can look great and have great storied histories, superbowl pedigree and coaches and STILL not get it done.

So let’s hope for a truly great match-up, when BOTH teams give it there best shot and may the best one win.

    Yo Brian.

You do realize Favre was on Green bay at that point. Plus its 0-3 not 0-8 in the play offs. However not including playoffs, hes 0-9 at the Cowboys, and 2-0 in Green Bay.

He didn’t have the receivers he has now, who are all great and can make plays.I think Favre’s history with a DIFFERENT team has no matter in how he will play against the cowboys.

I think it will definitely by close, but being at home and having scored 74 points in the last 6 quarters, I think the vikes are gonna pull it off and go all the way and win it in the Superbowl.

both teams are hot, it might come down to a last second field goal on eithers part

my prediction for this weekend is that the cowboys will need a extra point to tie and romo will fumble again just like before.. so here it is not the vikings choking, but romo yet again.. i am so excited for the cowboys to be packing up for home and i will be there to witness it. its gonna be a long drive home cowboys

I don’t want to scroll up again to find the posters name but whoever referred to their team as a “runaway freight train” should never say anything like that again. Just horrible. Also, whoever said that the “boys” have an advantage at QB, TE and WR is insane. Witten vs Shiancoe is your only case. Austin is good but Rice is doing just fine and you have Roy williams……enough said. Vikes win this game 31-17.

My prediction is Bret farve is going to play bad and throw interceptions because the vikes front line cant protect him with the great d the cowboys have. Time to retire Bret good run though.Cowboys 34-10

  106. By pardesi on Jan 12, 2010 | Reply

Two very good teams. Evenly matched. The difference will be momentum. Cowboys coming off four straight playing some very good teams in the last 5. Minnesota coming off 2-3 and a bye. Cowboys persistent pressure on Farve should prevail at the end. Cowboys 20 Minnesota 17.

I am so excited for the Game on Sunday & have “NO DOUBT” the Vikings will win. It has been an exciting season, and I thank each & every person in the Vikings organization for a great season…and look forward to the years to come! Everyone on this team knows their job better than I so all they need to do is go out there & “DO IT”, because we know they can. My Sister said something so funny last night about the game on Sunday, I just have to share….”SAVE a VIKING, RIDE A COWBOY!” GO VIKINGS!!!!!!!

Farve will choke just like he has last 3 times he’s played the Cowboys in the play offs.

    ATLANTA 9-7

Remember Bee Charmer? She went away ( or was banned ) once we all stopped replying to her. Ignore the Texas Trolls and they too will soon get bored and go away.

That said, I hope the Vikings play their game and Favre plays focused and steady.

    Leave no doubt, MN.

This is the match up I was waiting for. It’ll be a great game. And I know both teams will give it their all. Love or hate either team, you have to admit the match up is about as square up as you can get.

Yea, you tore up the Gnats but what did they have to play for? Other than assuring that the Cowboys NOT get the second seed? So they laid down. I dont’ even thing they got off the bus. Sorry Minney fans, you have a TOTALLY different team to contend with this week. I suggest the front office get some Ben Gay and adult diapers for you’re old QB. He’ll need it come Monday morning!! Hahahahaha!!

It doesn’t matter which running back the Cowboys use, we will run all over the Vikings on sunday. That is the truth. You may have had a bye, but you will be cold coming in. Cowboys have been playing lights out and as good as Favre is the Cowboys will knock him down ALL DAY!!! Your secondary is suspect and Romo and his receivers will have a field day picking them apart. Vikings are a great team, however you guys had an inferior schedule to Dallas this past year and were not tested enough. Cowboys 34 Vikegirls 21

    Die hard Cowboys fan.
For those of you that say the Vikings are on a better hot streak than the Cowboys…?!? C’mon, you can;t be serious?!
Neverthless, going to be a great game. Top tier defense vs a top tier offense. It’s goin be fun.
    Favre vs Romo
    Peterson vs Dallas’s run Defense

I can’t predict this one (Though I’m rooting for my boys all the way to Miami) it’s gonna be a 10 point difference, MAX, either way.

In case u haven’t heard the only ones not picking Dallas to win is the people in Minnesota. There were talks at the beginning of this year if Favre could last an entire season….hince the reason he wanted to walk away. The only reason he came back and wen to the Vikes was to get the ultimate revenge on the Packers. That was the last thing they wanted because he knows that team better then their own coaches.

    Now look at these stats:
AP- 7 Fumbles- 3 from Chicago and 3 from Detroit Lions…Chicago Defensive rank is 23 and Lions 25. I don’t care how you look at that…I would worry, being that the Cowboys D is ranked #4.

    AP rushing…4.4 yds
    Felix J. 5.9
    Choice 5.5

Dallas Rushing total NFL rank 7
    Minnesota’s 13

Dallas Offensevive rank total NFL #2
    Minnesota #5

Passing with Romo total NFL rank #6
    Favre #8

So the proof is in the pudding- Everything else that you want to argue carries no water. Minni still has the 2nd easiest schedule in the NFL, ranked 31. While Dallas is ranked 11. What is funny about that stat is that Chicago (who beat the Vikings) had the easiest schedule in the NFL….yah the Bears who made AP fumble 3 times.

  124. By Cowboys4life on Jan 12, 2010 | Reply

Also, as another post pointed out…Philly whooped the Giants twice as the Cowboys whooped Philly 3 times. That argument is ridiculous. Division rivalries are a lot different games. As you Vikings know VS the Packers. The same argument that Dallas hasn’t won a playoff game since 96 is one of the reasons after winning against Philly last Saturday is why you should worry. The fire is burning and this team is young. I don’t think the game will even be close. It’s not going to be like a hailmary to beat the 49er’s close it’s going to be a 20 point spread Cowboys favor.

Thank you Josey for your comments. Viking fans remember. The past means nothing, and there is no such thing as momentum. Lets channel all of our good energy to the Vikings, and bad energy to the Cowboys. The rest will take care of itself. Go Vikings!!!

All you boys fans – put up or shut up. This means you take your equity line of credit and bet it all on the boys. It is funny all the reasonings that these interlopers come up with why the Vikes are not good. Kind of like the Fox guys all picking the Pack in the Pre-season (except Marvez who liked Chicago) But the only team who can represent that division in the superbowl now is Minn. The Texas team is strong, but so was Cinci. If the nagging injuries have had enough healing time, expect the Vikes to be the stronger team. Look for Winfield to fly in there and create negative yardage plays, leading to punts. In the pre-seaon – I picked Minnesota/NO as the game to watch, and only the Boys and the Cards stand in the way of that! Take that all you experts, at Fox!

I like how the media and everyone else bashes Favre for throwing costly intereceptions but I watched Tom brady throw 3 INT and 1 Fumble and no one said anything but “he’s just having a bad day because he’s coming off of an injury” But when Favre threw the interceptions due to a shoulder injury in his throwing arm when he was on the Jets the media teared him apart.

NOW we see Rodgers throw an INT on his first play and a Fumble on the last play to win the game but EVERY ONE is only talking about how great he is to lead his team to a come back.

Isn’t there something wrong with this picture?

They would like to audition to sing the “National Anthem”, but cannot figure out how to do it. (Or where to get the information) I will search your website more. But please e-mail me if you can. Thankyou very much!! (Go to to hear some of their songs!!)
