Harvin Added To Pro Bowl Roster

Posted by Mike Wobschall on January 4, 2010 – 4:10 pm

Vikings rookie WR Percy Harvin, who this season set a new team record for kickoff return TDs with 2 and last week set new team records for all-purpose yardage and rushing yards by a WR, has been added to the NFC’s Pro Bowl roster as a kick returner.

Originally, Philadelphia’s DeSean Jackson was tabbed as the NFC’s Pro Bowl returner as well as a WR. Because Jackson was selected at 2 positions, he will participate in the Pro Bowl at the position for which he received the most voting points (WR) and Harvin will be added to the roster and occupy the other slot.

“I feel blessed to make it to the Pro Bowl,” Harvin said on Monday. “It is a great honor and humbling to be recognized by the other players and coaches in the NFC. I also want to thank all the fans who voted for me. But the biggest thanks goes to my teammates. I can’t do much of anything without the ten other guys blocking, so really it’s like a special teams honor for all of us.”

Harvin is the only Viking in team history with2 kickoff return TDs and his 27.5-yard kickoff return average is the 2nd-best single-season mark in team history. He is just the 2nd Vikings kick returner ever to be named to the Pro Bowl (Koren Robinson – 2005).

The 42-man NFC squad is comprised of 21 offensive and 17 defensive players plus 4 specialists.

Just another player who can send Favre a thank-you card for their excellent season this year. You think Rice or Harvin would have been in the Pro Bowl with TJack in the lineup? Way to go guys…now bring it home!

The Pro Bowl format makes NO sense. Let’s say the Vikings make the Superbowl. 9 out of 42 NFC players will not play ? Great idea NFL ! WHo comes up with these ideas ? Maybe they should make it a shuffleboard tournament to lessen the possibility of injuries. GO VIKNGS !

Percy is the best Florida Gators athlete to ever play football; more so than Tebow, Emmitt, Chris Collinsworth,Youngblood. The closest Gator to play at Percy’s level is on defense, Wilber Marshall, LB.

The greatest Gator athlete ever, Percy Harvin!\; doing it at the next level.

Nice to see him have a good game again to know he is alright (with his migraines). Great receiver, love it just as much when they hand it to him, he averages like 20 some yard a run. Hope they put him in the wildcat like they tries at the beginning of the year, You got 2 wekks to work on it. 9 pro-bowlers to bad (I’m stealing this line from a couple of you guys) he wont get to play in the Probowl because he’ll be getting ready for the Superbowl baby!

  24. By ORVikingFan on Jan 4, 2010 | Reply

Great for Percy and Great for the Vikings! 9 Pro Bowl players what a great team they have this year. Lets hope he doesnt get to play in the Pro Bowl because the Vikings will be playing in the Super Bowl this year! Either way congrats to Percy and the whole Viking team! Looking forward to a memorable Super Bowl with Purple and Gold bringing the trophy to Minnesota!

My only fear is that history repeats itself and Favre throws the stupid INT that ends the Vikings season. He’s blown it at the end 6 years in a row now. The last time he played for anything (the NFC Championship) he threw it all away, all by himself. I’m afraid he’s gonna ruin it for the Vikings.

  28. By Scraaaaazy on Jan 5, 2010 | Reply

Plus, I’m sick of hearing about the Pro Bowl. The only Bowl that matters is the SUPER BOWL. And I fear that the Vikings won’t get there because Favre throws the killer INT.

Man, the NFC is going to SUCK in the probowl this year! How can any team win with 9 of its top 42 players eliminated from the game?

Way to go Vikes, win the big one in Miami and teach the NFL decision makers just how horrible of a choice it was to place the probowl ahead of the Superbowl.

    CONGRATS AGAIN
    PERCY PROBOWLER HARVIN… SOUNDS GOOD

Let’s do it Percy! But I agree, he will not get to play in the Pro Bowl on account of his preparation for the SUPERBOWL!

Oh and BTW, stop with all the Tavaris Jackson hating… He is filling in admirably as the #2 QB and he is not making any waves about it like a professional in this league should. People who kick others while their down (like some “LOSER” Vikings fan above) need a lesson in positive reinforcement.

    Noentheless, GO PERCY! GO VIKES!!!

CONGRATS PERCY !!!! WELL DESERVED. NOW IMPROVE THAT GOD GIVEN TALENT EACH YEAR. DON’T REST ON JUST TALENT ALONE. WORK AS HARD YOU CAN !! AND BE A PLAYER PEOPLE WILL RESPECT AND REMEMBER FOR A LONG TIME.

    GOD WATCH OVER YOUR HEALTH.

    GO VIKES !!!

    Hi Vikes-fans,

I am from Germany, and my team always have been the Vikes. I am so glad about their season ending. We all can hope on a home game in NFC championship game….
We need to erase the Atlanta/Anderson catastrophe from 11 years ago…..That´s my dream to see them in the Superbowl.

Go Vikes – go like against NY!

Congrats and Well deserved honor… There shouldn’t even been any second guessing if Percy should have been in the Probowl or not… Just look at his numbers and he even missed a few games, due to his illness… I am truly greatful to witness the outcome of the Vikings in 2009 season but, it is not over yet; we still got some work to finish… And about the Probowl being played before the Superbowl, who’t big idea was this anyway… See, this wouldn’t happened if the NFL hadn’t brought the Probowl to Florida in the first place… They should have just kept the Probowl in Hawaii (Honolulu)… Sorry, I had to say that because I live in Hawaii (Honolulu)… That’s okay I would rather see the Viking in the Superbowl… GO VIKES…….. Aloha!!!

everyones is right that is cool that we have the most players in the pro- bowl but they will be preparing for the superbowl if they can at least get by the second round of the playoffs.

  43. By Cullen on Jan 6, 2010 | Reply

NEWSFLASH!!!!!! How about playing the Pro Bowl as the first game of the Pre-Season? After training camps start, players are ready to hit someone other than their teammates. This will reduce the chance of an injury affecting draft strategy as well as give individual players moving via free agency or trades to get one last chance to give their home fans a reason to cheer. Just a thought.

Way to go Percy!. I once told you that I thought you may be a defensive back in the pro’s. This was at your high school award program at Landstown High School. I was wrong. I did know you would be special. Show them what you showed everybody in Virginia. Hint: I wear a uniform.

congrats but if there’s a viking uniform on that field in miami before the superbowl. i’m turning into a baseball fan.
