Rice Honored At Pro Bowl Selection, But Focused On Team Goal

Much was made last offseason of the fact that WR Sidney Rice spent time working out with Cardinals All-Pro WR Larry Fitzgerald, Jr. and a couple of legendary WRs.

Then, as Rice was in the midst of putting together a breakout season, even more was made of the fact that Rice spent the previous offseason working out with Fitzgerald, Jr., another receiver with the last name Rice and the Vikings best receiver in franchise history.

And now, with the best regular season of his career almost complete, Rice has received the most important validation yet that his hard work and dedication this past offseason was effective.

Rice was named to the NFC Pro Bowl team for the first time in his career.

“It’s an amazing feeling to be thought of that way, as one of the top players at your position,” Rice said on Tuesday night.

But with his team in the thick of an intense battle for playoff position, Rice was clear that the Pro Bowl honor is not his main focus.

“My main goal still hasn’t been accomplished and that’s the next thing we have to focus on,” the lanky 6-4 receiver said. “I didn’t set individual goals coming into the season, they were all team goals. I just wanted to be a playmaker and a leader on a Super Bowl winner.”

I wish all the vikings had the work ethic and dedication that Rice has. He is a constant play maker on this team and at times seems to be about the only one. Eight of you were voted to the pro bowl and your playing like a bunch of back up’s….C’Mon MAN!!!! How many chances at this do you think your going to get?

I just want to congratulate Sidney Rice! From the very first game I picked him as my favorite and he has held up to that! I love watching him jump up for those spectacular catches and he so deserved this honor! Luv ya Sidney!!

I still think some of his motivation has to be from Brett Favre having so much faith in him! Favre is also an inspiration to all!

Well done Sidney, I remember during the draft I wondered why the Vikings took you over the USC WR, Jarret due to the fact you played mostly QB, but once I saw you play for the first time I was enthused. Big props for this one, too bad you and the rest of the 8 wont be able to play in the pro bowl game.

With the superbowl the week after, youll have too much practicing to do. As long as everyone keeps their head in the game. Congratulations Sid on being recognized above all else. Now bring home the ring, and itll be a complete season.

Congrats to all the Vikings who at one time or another this season have played outstanding enough to be awarded with this great honor! Now it’s high time we group together as a unit and expose that talent again as we gear up for the play-offs! Get hungry Vikes!!
