Vikings Cage Bengals, Clinch Playoff Spot

Posted by Mike Wobschall on December 13, 2009 – 4:04 pm

The Vikings were back at Mall of America Field this weekend after last week’s Sunday night loss to Arizona and they got back on the winning track with a 30-10 pounding of the AFC North-leading Cincinnati Bengals.

The Vikings were led by an impressive defensive performance and a well-rounded offensive output. The special teams unit also played well as the Vikings put together a complete team performance to take down the Bengals.

The win improves Minnesota to 11-2 on the season and it clinches a spot in the NFC playoffs.

We’ll have continuing coverage of the Vikings victory for the rest of tonight and into next week on vikings.com.

Great job by the DB’s today, having Winfield back made everyone play better on D. In my opinion Tyrell Joihnson can have the rest of the year off. Jamarca Sanford played very well

haha, yes, Tyrell Johnson has been awful mostly all year, and Sanford did play well, boy oh boy, Antoine Winfield, what a sight to see him in uniform, he was awesome…he typifies what our defense is, he’s the tone-setter, what a whale of a game he played

Good win vs. a playoff caliber team! Hey Marvin Lewis do you remember how you insisted on running up the score on Mike Tice a few years back? Enjoy your flight back to the queen city and have some Skyline chili when you arrive to stomach how the Vikings came @ you with their vanilla package and held you in check!!!!!

Vikings played well-rounded this game and completely took out the bengals in ever aspect. I believe the most unsung hero this week is Antoin Winfield, he made the bengals hurt and fear him.

when i was 49, it was a very good year, it was a very good year for the vikings with the super bowl in sight…the rest of the teams can gripe(sing to Frank Sinatras….it was a very good year)

If our defense stays healthy, plays as well as it did today and Harvin and the rest of our offense stays healthy, I think we can beat anyone in the league

I just wish we still had Sharper on D. We would have had some more defensive scores.

it’s nice to see A.P. have 25+ attemps and Favre 30 or less attemps. Our O.L. is built to run the ball and punish the D.

I think Tyrell Johnson should be benched. Sanford has shown some light and abilities to become an aggressive safety. What a game for Vikings. GO VIKES!

Cincy took an awful lot of penalties. Vikes had a bad game last week and the Bengals had a bad game this week. Favre looked mediocre at best, but defense and Peterson/Taylor picked up his slack and we got a fairly convincing win. How bout Jasper Brinkley? Not bad! Did we hold Benson under 100 yards or did he ruin our streak? I did not see his final total, it was close.

Two leading tacklers today: Antoine Winfield, Jamarca Sanford.

Wow. Big step-up by those two guys, who mostly didn’t play recently.

‘Purple08′: Benson had 96 yards on 16 carries…U’ve got to give Cincy’s D credit, they have a terrific defense, that’s the most pts. they’ve given up all year. They have 2 all-pro corners and #4 took some vicious shots today…Brinkley did OK…notice when Benson had some big runs it was Jasper who was out of position and tackles some air, and on othe rruns he couldn’t get off blocks, keep that in mind for future games, but, since it’s his first start and he’s a rookie, we’ll give him a pa-ss…Play-calling was really good today, mixed it up and weren’t too pa-ss happy, we needed a game like this to establish our physicality again…Antoine Winfield set the tone for our defense in this game, he was awesome

I noticed at least 3 times were Brinkley got burnt, being out of position or not being able to get off a block but your right i’ll give him a pass, he’ll get better after all the bengals have one of the best rushing attacks in the league
