Winfield Doubtful, Game-Time Decision

Posted by Mike Wobschall on November 20, 2009 – 5:34 pm

The Vikings and Seahawks have released their final injury reports for the week. Seahawks RB Julius Jones is the only player who has been ruled out of Sunday’s game.

The guy everyone has their eye on is CB Antoine Winfield, who is working his way back from a foot injury suffered in Week 6. Winfield was listed as a limited participant all week in practice and on Friday the Vikings listed him as doubful for Sunday.

“I saw a lot of progress from Wednesday to Thursday,” Vikings Head Coach Brad Childress said. “Different approach Thursday from what I saw here on Wednesday. He’s going to make a push to Sunday. I’m not 1,000 percent sure he’s going to make it there but I know that he is still going to work. It’s not like for us the hay is in the barn. Those guys treat on for 48 hours and it’s amazing what you can do. He will get out and move around before the game.”

WR Bernard Berrian (hamstring) and CB Karl Paymah (ankle) are listed as questionable while QB Brett Favre (groin/hip), LB E.J. Henderson (knee), DE Jayme Mitchell (illness), CB Benny Sapp (groin) and FB Fahu Tahi (ankle) are listed as probable.

For the Seahawks, CB Josh Wilson is questionable, DT Craig Terrill (shoulder) is questionable and C Chris Spencer (thumb/back)  and CB Marcus Trufant (concussion) are probable.

I agree, sit Winfield for one more week unless it gets obvious that he is deathly needed. We’llenjoy watching him return next week against Jay Cutler and the Bears for a few INTs!

Comming off the injury after all these weeks WInfield is going to be a bit rusty, Let him play a quarter if we have a huge lead to shake some of the cobwebs. As far as the INTs we are on the bottom 5 of the league. I’d like to buy a few. I’d rather have 1 int than 4 sacks any day even though I do enjoy watching the opposing QB on his back. Last year at the begining of the season people wanted Chilly out now they sign him to another 4 years and more than double his salery. If Brett isn’t back next year I don’t even want to think about the future with this guys playcalling with a lousey QB.

why does ppl think we will have a lousy qb favre is mentoring jackson and believe me he’s watching closely and will be ok next yr.why do ppl feel we have been lucky this yr but when we lose close games we’re called chokers, come on fans get real we are contenders and we have played hard and supported hard so enjoy the ride. Now to winfield, ease him back in like blkandblu said he will be alittle rusty.

BnB – The only reason that certain ppl wanted Chilly out was b/c they thought that Chilly was bad at calling plays. Even considering that this might be the case, it is one small part of the Head Coach’s job. This guy is also responsible for bringing in winning players and personnel, training the guys, organizing the team, researching and preparing for the upcomming games, leading off the field activities, representing the team to the media and more importantly than anything else the team’s record. His leadership has improved us from 6-10 to 8-8 to 10-6 and now we have 8 wins with 7 games to go. It sounds extremely plausible to improve by another 2 games, and very likely to do even better than that. So you mihgt not agree with his playcalling, but it’s getting the job done. Sometimes the most controversial ideas are the most successful ones.

Chilly is a genius, great signing for the vikings, future looks bright.

I’m a little concerned now abotu ‘Twan…oriiginally he said he wouldn’t miss a lot of time, now here we are 7 weeks later and he’s still not ready…while I do agree that he should get himself as healthy as he can, I just hope that he won’t be rusty when he comes back, which he most likely will…Just as long as he is good when the playoffs roll around, he is the most underrated defensive player on this team, he is such a key to this team, we definitely need him.

Not so fast to praise Chilly…..This is the same guy who named Jackson a starter. Rosenfels sould be #2 on the depth chart, Booty #3, and Jackson should be pumping gas somewhere!

I’ve been hesitant about Chilly for a long time, but he has slowly, game by game, season by season, earned my respect as a fan. He’s made some moves that have boggled my mind at first, but nearly every personell (I said NEARLY) has turned out for the better. Most of the personell i’ve seen leave (other than contract reasons…) have gone nowehere, where as the pick ups are usually decent. As for play calling, usually hes alright. I know the red zone plays have been questionable, but then again the teams struggled to get the job done in red zone, which is a problem.

I think a lot of fan hate on t-jack is racial and he did a very good job at the end of last yr but very few give him credit for how he played when u got his job back.who do u ppl think would be starting if favre hadn’t signed. What sage ot gbooty.sage showed nothing in preseason and booty never has since he was man qb’s come out smoking, not many it takes yrs to get that position right so let up on t-jack.

1955, i usually agree with you but not this time, when TJ came back last season, he played against a couple of teams that had nothing to play for (giants/cards), and he lost the play-off game for us. he just doesn’t have IT. nothing racial, i rooted for him, but he’s just not an NFL QB.

Hey 1955….The only color being talked about here is purple, or else your on the wrong site you dumb ass. Ive been a V-fan since the days of Chuck Foreman…Used to tailgate at the old Met….Ive seen tem all and I have seen enough of your T-Jack.

The Vikings need Antoine Winfield to get to the Superbowl. Viking fans need to pray that he will return soon.

1955 i can’t believe you brought up the race card. yeah I’m back rap99! you just love it when somebody dumps on t-jack don’t you? don’t worry rap, chilly has a new contract so hopefully he will stick with jackson for another 5 years after grandpa retires!this team has a couple years left before the window closes. back to back superbowls. one with favre and one with Jackson! Woot!

How many of the games would have been won with Jackson at QB this year ? Figure on 1 more INT and half (which is generous) as many completions. By the way the opponents would have 8 in-the-box througout the game. AD would be that much more of a target.
Now to the defensive side, it is a lot easier to key on QB and go for sack when up by 10+ than when team is down because of another INT or going 3 and out missing the rec on an 8 yd pattern in the falt. 5-4 would be fortunate.

I’m sure the guy can do better than pumping gas. AlaState is a fine school and hopefully prepared him well. But he is not an NFL QB, Vikings fans deserve better.

MINNYBABY 08, thought it was you. TJ will never win a superbowl. if favre retires and we go back to TJ we will not contend for the superbowl. i disagree with you alot, but i thuoght you knew football.

  21. By 4everpurple on Nov 22, 2009 | Reply

The difference between Favre and Jackson….Favre= superbowl…Jackson=toilet bowl

When did this turn into a conversation about T-Jack?…who really cares about that at this point in the season…we should be focused on today’s game vs. Seattle…I dont think it’s going to be as easy as ppl think it’s going to be…we’ve had some very interesting games with them our last several games vs them…Hasselbeck has played in our dome 2wice before, they have good recievers (ex-Vike Burleson), and TJ who’s ur daddy, who almost signed with us in the off-season, we should be able to score some points on them, they can be thrown and run on…this is going to be a close game, if we overlook them at all, we will lose…I think we might be due for a letdown game.

PAVikes – Glad to see some intelligence back on this forum. Things were really getting childish for a while. I’m not too worried about Burleson and Housh, simply because our defense has done an astounding job of keeping top receivers from making headlines against us. If Seattle is going to have a big day, it is going to be through the lesser knowns, with short completions down the middle and scampering past the defenders. Don’t forget that we already had our letdown against Pittsburgh! This is a great team, and close or not, we will come out victorious at the dome.

  25. By PAVikesFan on Nov 22, 2009 | Reply

I hope ur right…I dont necessarily think the Steelers game was a letdown game, it was a close game against a great team…TE John Carlson could have a big day…Our D has played well in Winfield’s absence, but they have 4 good options on offense (TJ, Burleson,Branch,Carlson), their slot reciever, either Burleson or Branch, could have a big day…As always with our D, if we dont get a consistent pa-ss rush, we can be thrown on…It’s going to rely on our front 4 as usual…Also, is it just me, or do our blitzes take so long to develop?…it seems like our guys, particularly in the secondary, dont time the bliztes right, they take forever to get to the QB, and we can get burned when we blitz b/c of that…Good stuff, though, PPE, good to talk some real football, appreciate it
