Much of the focus on today’s Vikings-Packers game is on QB Brett Favre and his return to Lambeau, but there are plenty of other players who will have an impact on the outcome of today’s contest, not the least of which is DE Jared Allen.
In the Vikings victory over Green Bay at Mall of America Field earlier this year, Allen sacked Packers QB Aaron Rodgers 4.5 times, including a safety that was pivotal in the 30-23 victory. With the emotions likely flowing for Favre in his return to Lambeau and the Packers faithful likely to let Favre hear it via a relentless chorus of boos, it sounds like Allen and his Vikings teammates are prepared to step up.
Earlier today on ESPN’s SportsCenter, reporter Ed Werder quoted Allen as saying to Favre “we have your back.”
The best way for Allen to have Favre’s back is to be draped all over the back of Rodgers again. And his ability to do just that could be enhanced if starting LT Chad Clifton (ankle) is unable to play and rookie T.J. Lang has to go in his place. Appearing on SportsCenter this morning, ESPN NFL information men Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter indicated that Clifton may indeed be unable to play.
For Allen, an encore performance of his 4.5-sack output from Week 4 will go a long way toward helping the Vikings complete a season sweep of Green Bay and head into the bye week with an impressive 7-1 record.
