Here At Heinz Field – Pregame Updates

The 1st group of team buses has arrived at Heinz Field as game time for today’s Vikings-Steelers game approaches. Players and coaches are slowly making their way onto the field to begin warming up. It’s a beautiful day here in Pittsburgh – sunny skies and a current temperature of 48 degrees.

There’s been much attention centered on the playing surface here at Heinz Field, which is known as one of the poorest playing surfaces in the league. I haven’t gotten down to the field yet, but from the press box it looks like the field is in good shape. The field has been recently re-sodded in between the hash marks, and it doesn’t look like yesterday’s Pitt-South Florida game tore up the surface too much. After I go down to the field in a little bit, I’ll come back with a field surface report.

There is no update on the injury front. The prevailing thought is that CB Antoine Winfield won’t go today, but that WR Percy Harvin will be able to give it a go. It also seems as if Steelers S Troy Polamalu will play. But we’ll have the official update 90 minutes before kickoff, so be sure to stay tuned to the Blog.

There is going to be a pretty heavy national media presence here today – that’s the feeling I’m getting anyway. NFC North ESPN blogger and former Star Tribune Vikings beat writer Kevin Seifert is here, as is ESPN’s information man John Clayton. I expect to see even more national guys because this is the NFL’s best matchup this weekend.

That’s it for now, but be sure to stick here because we’ll have several more updates before game time. Also, we’ll be hosting a live chat during the game.

Let’s go boyz!…We need a strong pa-ss rush, I’m talking not only #69, we need 93,94,96,91…That is one of the ways to keep them off-rythm…Also since Twan is not going today, the secondary’s best friend will be a strong pas-s rush…everyone seems to think it will be a high scoring game…I think the first half teams will be feeling each other out…the scoring will be in the second half…A possible big game from Ray Edwards

Vikings fans everywhere…”Antoine Winfield will miss 4-6 weeks”, says an ESPN inside source…Well, folks, time to see what Benny Sapp and Karl Paymah can do…I’m a little fearful that teams are going to abandon the run against us and go no-huddle and just light up our secondary…DC Leslie Frazier will have to come up with some innovative coverages throughout the next several weeks…I remember back in 2006 when we were 4-2, just coming off a big win at Seattle…The venue was MNF, home vs. NE…Folks, I understand that we are not even close to the same team we were in 06, but, we had the same run defense today as we did then, Tom Brady and company came in, didn’t even entertain the thought of running, and he just lit us up, and teams saw that game-film and copied that gameplan the rest of the season vs. us, that’s what I’m a little afraid of…
