Winfield, Polamalu Update

Posted by Mike Wobschall on October 23, 2009 – 12:18 pm

Nothing is official yet because the Vikings and Steelers haven’t issued their Friday injury reports, but there is an update in the status of key defenders CB Antoine Winfield and S Troy Polamalu.

Winfield is dealing with a foot injury suffered in the 1st half of last week’s Ravens game. The injury has caused Winfield to miss practice this week and the Access Vikings blog on the Star Tribune’s website pointed out that Winfield was again absent from practice on Friday.

Polamalu suffered a knee injury in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans and that forced him out of action for the remainder of that game and also Weeks 2-5. He returned last week but then re-aggravated the injury during the game and missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday. But today, Polamalu was back on the practice field, according to this report from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Both teams will release their final injury reports of the week later today and we’ll have an update right here on the vikings.com as soon as one is available.

This is a big game for both teams. The vikes want respect and steelers just want to win to get in the playoff picture. Both teams are really banged up. I do think that whatever team can establish the run sucessfully, will win the game. I do think it will be close like a 20-17 game or 16-13 game. It will not be a rout. Should be exciting right until the last play of the game.

vikings wont run on the STEELERS period. allen is a beast so he will get pressure. BUT ben deals with that all the time so thats not a factor. if anything it helps the STEELERS,ben is leathal when outside the pocket. he also has most passing yards this season and has the 2nd highest passer rating. hes going to have a field day passing to two super bowl mvp’s and the speedster mike wallace. vikings give up the most yards to the tight end. the STEELERS have one of the best tight ends in heath miller. im sure that favre will hear the footsteps of harrison and farrior all day long. i think i will end up being a close game but i also think that your undefeated season will come to a halt sunday.

I think that Minnesota shouldn’t risk winfield because I mean he’s really important on defense we need players to be fully healthy to play I’m a huge Vikings fan and i believe that Minnesota is going to have a hard time but i believe they’ll come with a win

I understand that Ben Roethlisberger is awesome under pressure and great out of the pocket. But a man that almost no-one has ever heard of by the name of Brett Favre isn’t too shabby himself throwing on the run.He won’t run for yards but he’ll run to give his receiving corps extra time to get open. The problem I foresee for the Vikings is a lack of pass coverage due to Winfield’s absence. But if Jared Allen and his homies can create the pressure that they have shown throughout the season it looks like this game is just going to be a slugfest…your mom.

Everyone knows that the vikings play as good as their opponent, whehter its the browns or the steelers. But this year is different. Adrian Peterson does his BEST running against good defenses. I see him racking up 150+ rush yards in the win against the steelers.
