Peterson candidly discusses the many tragedies he has endured in just 24 years with veteran FOX journalist Laura Okmin, who hosts the show. The third-year running back details having his nine-year-old brother die after being struck by a drunk driver and losing his older brother to a carjacking on the eve of the player combine.

“That was tough for me, seeing him die right in front of me,” Adrian Peterson says about his younger brother.  “Just being there for my mom when she cried every night for a full year made me strong … I had to hold my tears and my pain in and comfort her.”

In addition, the two men openly talk about the eight-year prison sentence that the elder Peterson began when his son was just 13.

“I had the opportunity to sit down and talk to him about my whole situation,” Nelson Peterson said of his conversation with his son through a glass partition at the prison where he was serving his sentence. “I explained to him that daddy had done something wrong, daddy had made a terrible mistake and that he had to pay his debt to society. Your father was not a bad person; he just made some bad choices.”

In addition, the younger Peterson elaborates on how the two of them remained close even after his father was sentenced. The elder Peterson breaks down emotionally while talking about the guilt that he feels to this day that he was not there day in and day out for his son during his teenage years.

I cannot even begin to imagine what it would be like to lose a loved one like he did, or to even lose any at all…it’s obvious he has made some right choices in his life, it has made him stronger…I hear the players really like him, what he’s all about as well…he seems like a well-rounded, repectable young man, I believe that GOD has guided him down the right path.
