Childress Provides Injury Update On Winfield, Others

Posted by Mike Wobschall on October 19, 2009 – 1:06 pm

Speaking with reporters at Winter Park on Monday, Vikings Head Coach Brad Childress was asked about the status of several of his injured players.

Of primary concern is CB Antoine Winfield, who was forced out of Sunday’s game against the Ravens and did not return because of a foot injury. Childress said Winfield was in the facility treating the injury and that the CB has a sprained foot.

“People heal so differently, it’s hard to know,” Childress said when asked about a timetable for Winfield’s return. “I would’ve thought (Phil) Loadholt’s injury would’ve held him out longer than it held him out. Guys have different recuperative skills and I’m not going to rule him in or rule him out at this point.”

Childress was also asked about WR Percy Harvin, who re-aggravated his shoulder injury on Sunday, and RB Adrian Peterson, who twisted his ankle late in the game. He said his level of concern regarding Harvin was no higher this week than it was last week at this time and he also said Peterson his experiencing “overall body soreness.”

I hope Winfield is back next week when we play the Steelers, and Peterson I think will be fine, also I hope Harvin can play Sunday, even though Rice and Berrian, and Shiancoe are great players, Harvin can give the Steelers are hard time. Go Viking! Beat those Steelers and get to (7-0)!

It’s too bad you won’t be 100% healthy when the Steelers dominate Farve AGAIN. Look it up, Troy P owns that old hillbilly.

Steel City Sucka…. Troy Polamalu isn’t 100% either. That ligament got more than stretched. He’s tough enough to play- but by game six in the NFL, nobody is 100%.

Overall body soreness. Childress must be talking about football players after a game.

Last year in preseason the Vikings played Tomlin’s team to a 12-10 win. Preseason…I know. This isn’t the same Vikings team and the Steelers aren’t the same Super Bowl team from last year. Change is the one certainty.

That “old” hillbilly can still play. It would be nice to have a Vikings-Steelers Super Bowl rematch. Change is the one certainty.

We need antoine almost more than any other player on the defense besides maybe Jared Allen. We need Antoine to start next week really badly. Hope Percy’s all right too. Im worried about next week. Our chances against Pit are gettting smaller and smaller very quickly. Adrian will play bont he wont be much of a factor because hes dinged up and wont hit the hole hard + Pits defense. Hopefully wecan sneek out a win here.

Ben needs to look out for all of the D-Line. It’s gonna be tough all day. Pitt’s O-Line isn’t that great. Ward won’t have that good of a game against Antoine. Pitt will not run well and Ben has been turning the ball over every game. “Ben needs a Hillbilly arm”

We’ll need him against the Steelers, so I really hope he’ll be fine for the game!!!

The old hillbilly has the #3 highest rating in the NFL. Vikes are 6-0 eat it.

The heavens will shine on the vikes as they take out Pit. It will be a team effort with a little help from the angels. It will happen. Trust me.

Vikes have the makings of champ team…… great to pick up def line there are three possibles and snag a corner/safety from losing/building team…for superbowl push. Wilf has done it before and wouldn’t that be nice to win with Favre and All Day and the Defense all of them. I am tired of Pitt and they won their championship Vikes just need to show up and play with killer instinct they must find and use starting with the Steelers. Go Vikes

I feel so much more relieved now that the word on Winfield is out…we CANNOT afford to lose him for any amount of time, you obviously saw what happened when he wasn’t in there…we need capable DBs who can fill in when a starter goes down…we have to start looking out there to see who is available, also good news on Percy and AP..let’s get to the bye week healthy and re-charge for a the second half

I thought we had the making of a championship team but I am very concerned about our defense, particularly our secondary…almost every game we blow leads in the 4th quarter…our yards per game we give up is not good…Let’s take a quick reference to the Denver Broncos tonight against San Diego…on the road, they had the lead late and Phillip Rivers was leading his team down the field…BUT, Denver’s defense did not allow them to score, they buckled down, put pressure on Rivers, and ultimately they closed out San Diego, like great defenses do. That’s what we have to do, but we are not doing that right now.

Luv the VIKES—the announcers around here E.PA are so biased it hurts—Question —why haven’t the vikes drafted a QB the last few yrs?? It’s amazing what a good QB can do!!

Hope for a speedy recovery for Antonie, he’s been my favorite player since he came from the Bills. I love the way he plays the game and I always sport my home and away Winfield jerseys every week. Let’s shut down Pittsburgh and silence the critics on our way to 7-0. GO VIKS!!!!!!!

Big Vikings fan! What an exciting year so far, I was freaking out all game yelling WHERE IS ANTOINE WINFIELD!!!!! haha It’s good to know at least. I really hope and pray that he gets better because without him our secondary looked absolutely horrific. I obviously hope the other two are okay, i think A.P will be fine, but Percy maybe not so much, WE MUST DOMINATE THE STEELERS!! They got nothinggg on us!!!!! 7-0 baby!!

  21. By nwtrucker on Oct 20, 2009 | Reply

Heck, I’m more concerned with the Packers than I am with the Steelers. We have the best combined two lines in the NFL, we have more studs than the Steelers as well.
Frankly, I don’t see the Steelers as contenders, at least at this point of the season anyway.
The game is a lock for the Vikes, looking foreward to the Pack.

I think this game will be close and we will win it. I really wish sports analysts would stop knocking on the defense saying that Antoine was the corner out there getting beat, It was Karl Paymah a 3rd string young corner not the 11 year veteran. When Winfield is in we are a much better “D” and Sharper looks so good in N.O because he is a perfect fit for there scheme not ours. Congrats to him for having such a good season thanks for 4 good years with us. If winfield is out there just watch how much fewer rushing and passing yards the steelers will get.

  25. By winfieldakabestcornerback on Oct 20, 2009 | Reply

We need winfield back to ensure a victory over the steelers. He is like troy polamalu he is a key piece in the D. Go vikes and Winfield we need you back.

Are u nuts the vikings D is stacked but dont get me wrong they are going to need winfeild to slow down heins ward or santonio holmes

  27. By Tom Jones on Oct 21, 2009 | Reply

Huge Vikings fan, but let’s be realistic – this is a loss, so Winfield might as well sit until the following game versus the Pukes. The Steelers matchup obscenely well against us – easy win for them, sorry.

Tom Jones—Go back to the rest home my friend you’re getting more and more senile. It could be a loss, but it will be closer than you think. If Favre can keep the Steeler D on the field and wear them down, it will be verrrrrrrry interesting.
