Vikings Game @ Lambeau Moved To 3:15

Posted by Mike Wobschall on October 13, 2009 – 9:59 am

The Vikings and Packers combined earlier this season on Monday Night Football to create a ratings bonanza. QB Brett Favre’s 1st game against his former team was the most-watched cable TV program in history.

The Vikings and Packers will meet once more this year as Favre will make his 1st return to Lambeau Field on November 1. It was announced today that the game time has been moved from a noon kickoff to a 3:15 p.m. start on FOX.

The last time the Vikings won at Lambeau Field was a 20-17 victory in 2005.

As a Cheesehead from Menasha now living in New Orleans, 95% of the FANS will be cheering for Favre, albieit quietly. Packer management ought to team up with Matt Millen. They could share a panel on failed policies and never apologize.

Just an FYI for the Joe Buck haters: game four of the World Series is on Nov. 1 as well, so I’m assuming he’ll be there and FOX will send the B crew to Green Bay.

I’m in D.C. and they did a switcheroo on CBS between the Ravens and the Skins game this Sunday.
I just hope they do not restrict access to Sunday Ticket for the game they are not broadcasting (Vikings-Ravens)

The Packers game 11/1 will be the marquee double-header game, which means anyone not in Carolina or Arizona will get to see the game.

They will have you believe that the Game was switched because of its Favre Factor and the great MNF ratings, but the primary reason was to de-conflict the shared parking lot between NFL/MLB stadiums in Philadelphia, just in case the Phillies make it to the World Series. NFL has already updated its schedule page to reflect the changes.

So, let’s all thank the Phillies success for nudging the NFL schedulers into allowing a national audience to witness the game.

PackCat – I’d wager that a major portion of the decision was based on the record setting audience on Monday Night as the Packers visited Minnesota. I read that it was the most watched program in television history, (although it may just have been NFL history). I’m sure that FOX is salivating at the chance to leech off of those types of ratings come November 1.

Just to rattle the batting cages, I’ll advance the conspiracy theory a bit further.

This may be a backhanded reciprocation to Baseball for forcing the end of season tiebreaker an extra day because of the MNF game. Tit for Tat. Notice both games involve the same two NFL teams. What becomes convenient for the NFL and gives it a valid reason outside of politics for rescheduling, also lessens the congestion mess that could happen if or when the Phillies play in the World Series.

In each case, the Premiere sports event in Prime time took precedence, the two leagues made the proper compromise, and the fans are the winners. Not very often does this usually happen in the business world, where the fans are the last consideration. This is a win-win for everyone.

Of course dislocated diehard Giants-Eagles fans may think different, but they have their own blogs to whine about that. :)

HIGHEST rated Cable Broadcast of ALL time.

The NFL took 3 of the 4 top spots (all MNF) with High School Musical2 3rd.
