Childress: “A Good Team Win”

Posted by Mike Wobschall on September 28, 2009 – 3:57 pm

Vikings Head Coach Brad Childress, less than 24 hours after his team completed a remarkable come-from-behind win to move to 3-0, held his usual day-after-the-game press conference on Monday and was measured in his reflective comments. He was clearly pleased with the way his team performed but he also pointed out that there’s plenty of work to be done.

“Really a good team win,” Childress said. “At the same time, all of us are aware that at 3-0, they don’t crown any champions at the end of September. I just point to where we were at record-wise last year right about now. Everything is a work in progress.”

Childress said his team has “a ton of things to clean up” in all 3 phases of the game but that the players are willing to do what it takes to improve.

“Our guys are amenable to that (improving),” Childress said. “It’s a long season but they want to get it right and as long as they have that mentality, we’re going to remain a good football team.”

After reflecting on the 49ers game, Childress quickly indicated the team’s focus is now on the upcoming game against the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football.

“Don’t know if I’ve ever been involved with a come-from-behind like that with no timeouts, but certainly a bunch of guys made plays, including the offensive linemen, who were able to do a great job protection-wise coming back down the field,” Childress explained. “Like I said, team win, we’ll take it, we’ll move on, we’ll get back going on Green Bay here this afternoon.”

It was a good team win. Those are the types of games every now and then you have to win. Take a look at the Super Bowl last year. The Steelers defense just crumbled in the 4th Qtr. Now let me ask you this…Do u think anyone in their organization or any of their players or fans thought that was “bad win”???…I think not. Many can argue that they should have lost, but, they went down the field just like we did and won the game, point being teams need to win games like that every once in a while. We definitely have some things to sure up, but, it’s a marathon, not a sprint.

you may need to improve a lot many things to win the SB .. passrush, O-line, safety. Percy rocks.

Childress SUCKS!!! at PLAY CALLING Period!! thats our only problem… He really is bad at it… and He never has a Safty man on long field goals….Stupid dude!!

NO favre NO WIN!!! Only good thing he does is redrute people… get of the side lines and be a GM not coach!!!

He is so bad at calling plays……. every game so far he hands off to run on first play of game and runs to same spot in line.. DUH ….do it again dumby….all first half of every game run on first down….. what an idiot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

‘Mike’, chill out man. Take it easy on Chilly. Yes, he can be predictable at times, but he calls some nice plays as well. Also, the Off. coord. calls the plays to Chilly and he has the final authority on whether to run the play or change it, so it may not all be on him. It didn’t help that our WR’s dropped a zillion bal-ls. Bottom line is we won, period, end of story.

I hope they do not have another FG blocked… I would rather go for it and loose a chance at 3 pts to gain a chance at a TD. That block shows why 4 down territory is not so bad. Coach… Have everyone practice the FG kicking game as though it is a block and play that way, at the sound of the kick turn around and sprint the other way! Put one of your speed guys who can tackle back there eh??? If it was Percy he could pick it up and run to the right house.

Chill out on chilly. No he doesn’t call the best plays but he has improved and we are 3-0,also look at this,he courted favre for 2yrs and got him,he waived wade got lewis and lewis made a great catch. This was a team effort and the only weakness I see is the o-line.Favre will not be taken lightly by any team from now on.He’s getting more insinc with the recievers but berrian can’t keep dropping like this game.I will say he made catches when it counted on the final drive.Rice your on ur way to top notch reciever and harvin ur the second beast on this team great draft choice and that also was on chilly. When berrian gets it going watchout we will have way to many thyreats to deal with.So how many of u that hated the farve trade still do and how many that did will now say its ok.

Mike – Actually in Week 1 the 1st playcall was a run off left tackle. In Week 2, the 1st play was a run off of right tackle. And then in Week 3 it was a run up the middle. So you’re wrong when you say the Vikings have run the 1st play of the game to the same spot every week. On top of that, do you realize we have Adrian Peterson? He’s arguably the best RB in the NFL…and I’d say his 1st run against the Houston Texans – a 75-yard TD run that started up the middle – was a pretty good 1st play call of the game.

Know your facts before you start calling people names and criticizing them.

Instead of always going for it on fourth in FG range as CA Norwegian seems to suggest, or pulling a lot of fakes in that position, why not develop the opposite capability — get a tailback who can drop kick it through the uprights when it looks like we’re going for it! :-)

Hey,what’s w/ #4 and the 2 DELAY of game penaltys and the pass while over the line of SCRIMMAGE!!!!!!I am a huge fan of the VIKES,I bleed PURPLE !!!!!! Have 4 season tix as 2nd generation season tix owner since ’69′…..Was not in favor of what Chilly did regarding holding our team hostage so he could bring in Favre!!!!!!! He wasted a whole season of AD’s knees trying to get a guy in camp,Favre, when he knew full welll Green Bay was not going to let that happen. So, because of his (C2=CHEESEHEAD CONNECTION= Chilly’s) shortsightedness we as a team were now theratened w/ TAMPERING.We all knew season b4 the need for a “viable veteran QB” excpet CHILLY….He waited until the only alternative left was to pull Gus Frerotte out of retirement !!!! I do not find that as a very intelligent thing to have done.Gus played his heart out but we had opport. at Matt Kassell, Kurt Warner Leftwich Kerry Collins et al !!!So now we as a team go through the same fiasco “AGAIN” I have always had respect for Favre and his accomplishments as a team leader on the field but also know he is vulnerable when you put pressure on him and put some points on the board against him…HE starts to press and forces junk when he shouldn’t….This week it happened to be the last play of the game so even if worst case ,pick,no big deal…It worked, it was exciting and if he gets us a SUPERBOWL WIN I will send CHILLY a personal congrat. letter..I hope Favre proves to be the winner we need to get us that superbowl win!!!! I felt CUTLER was the guy to have gone after as Favre is but 2 year short term fix…I also agree chilly and his predictable play calling is a real negative and frustrating..Mr wobschall you need to listen to the fans more and quit defending the Multi million $ coach less…Oh maybe I misunderstood what being a fan is, we are just suppose “to shut-up and drink the koolaid”!!!!!! The fan “MIKE” is a bit passionate but his thought was in the right place….AS a fan to see the same basic play to open every game is “frustrating” and lame…We need to see a slant play a few more screens etc and mike brought this out and all you could do was SLAM HIM!!!! What r u C2(chilly) protector n…on his (c2=chilly) payroll also!!!!!Just some long time purple blooded warrior thoughts , will u be man enough to print them !!!!! Realy feel C2(chilly) and his PR machine along w/ his Multi-mill $ salary can defend himself !!!!!!
