After a season-opening win in Cleveland and then Sunday’s 27-13 win in Detroit, the Vikings have opened a season with back-to-back road wins for just the 3rd time in franchise history. This upcoming Sunday, the Vikings will open their home schedule by playing host to the San Francisco 49ers in the only game on the Week 2 NFL schedule that pits a pair of 2-0 teams.
Although the Vikings have fared well on the road so far this season, and have actually won 5 straight road games dating back to the 2008 season, Vikings DE Jared Allen said he’s excited for a game in front of the home crowd.
“It’s gonna be nice. You get in front of the home crowd,” Allen said. “I didn’t get to play in any home preseason games. So I’m excited to get out there and play.”
Having found a way to win both of their road games, the Vikings are in a good position now with 2 consecutive home games on the schedule, including a showdown with division rival Green Bay on Monday Night Football on October 5.
“We’ve got two at home, which is nice, and we’re in a good situation,” Allen explained. “We’re 2-0 and the good part about it is that I don’t think we’ve played our best football yet.

That is how I feel about our team. It isn’t a one (wo)man show here. We offer the MVC the resources to help them do their best at their job and to feel taken care of for all they do.
Expressions MD help the faces of our team – by offering techniques and products that make the ladies skin beautiful. They also provide the team’s make-up.
Spalon Montage helps to apply the ladies make up and color/style their hair so they look like they just walked out off of a magazine ad!
Lifetime trains our team so their bodies look fit and their stamina is ready for game day! Love it!
Golden Tan offers the ladies Mystic Tans so their bodies have a healthy and vibrant glow.
GTM gears them up with their official team warm ups.
Reebok provides them with the latest Viking fashions for off the field.
The Line Up outfits them in their swimwear and their costumes for game day. We call them “Helga” and “Violet”.
WinCraft supplies them with poms – what’s a cheerleader without poms!?
Coaches/Staff help to motivate and encourage the team to meet their full potential.
Captains lead their team to be prepared for practices/games.
As you can see – it takes a community to take care of our MVC family!

Vikings RB Adrian Peterson won the FedEx Ground Player of the Week award for his performance against the Cleveland Browns in Week 1. Vikings LB Chad Greenway may be the one bringing home a national weekly honor for his outstanding performance against the Detroit Lions in Week 2.
Against Detroit on Sunday, Greenway picked off Lions QB Matthew Stafford twice and also recovered a fumble. The Vikings scored 14 points off of those 3 Greenway-induced turnovers, and likely prevented the Lions from putting points on the board as well.
“Fortunately they threw a couple (passes) my way and I was able to catch them,” Greenway said. “Sometimes it’s just your day.”
Greenway was humble in the locker room following the game. The interceptions were more than a matter of Stafford just throwing passes toward Greenway. On his 1st interception, Greenway came all the way across the field (right to left) to pick off a pass intended for WR Calvin Johnson. It appeared Johnson was open and a completion would’ve resulted in a 1st down, but instead Greenway stuck his mitts out and hauled in the laser from Stafford, even showing enough quickness to turn upfield before going out of bounds.
On the 2nd interception, Greenway was back-peddling into what appeared to be zone coverage. Stafford tried to go over the middle to TE Brandon Pettigrew, but Greenway jumped to grab the pass before it got to Pettigrew, and then #52 returned it 36 yards to the Lions 16-yardline to setup WR Percy Harvin’s 3-yard TD reception.
During the 2008 season, Greenway displayed his ability to get to the ball carrier by tallying a team-high 150 tackles. So far in 2009, Greenway continues to chase down opposing ball carriers (7 tackles), but he’s also making other plays all over the field.
Impact plays such as INTs and fumble recoveries are the type of plays, along with a 150-tackle season, that eventually put players in the Pro Bowl. As a prideful player, Greenway has the personal goal of making it to a Pro Bowl one day.
On Sunday in Detroit, he got a little bit closer.
