Report: Jackson To Backup Favre On Sunday

Posted by Mike Wobschall on September 12, 2009 – 4:47 pm

We have arrived in Cleveland on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in advance of Sunday’s season opener. After settling into my hotel room I browsed around the internet to get the latest NFL scoop and read a report from the St. Paul Pioneer Press about the Vikings backup QB situation.

Specifically, Sean Jensen is reporting that Tarvaris Jackson will be called upon to backup starting QB Brett Favre in tomorrow’s season opener against the Browns. Jensen cites a “person with knowledge of the situation” (“person with knowledge of the situation” seems to get the scoop on every story!).

vikings.com has not spoken to anyone regarding the situation and cannot confirm the development. Ultimately, we’ll know unequivocally who the backup is going to be for tomorrow’s game 90 minutes prior to kickoff, when both the Vikings and Browns will be required to disclose their 45-man active roster and 3rd (emergency) QB.

Vikings Head Coach Brad Childress said earlier this week that the team’s backup QB could change from week to week.

Mike you lucky dog. You get to travel with the Vikings and host this blog? What a deal !! I don’t know who it was that told Sean Jensen that T.J. was the backup for Favre but if it was a Viking player they better be careful, the last guy that did that and pronounced the starter isn’t with the team anymore. I’m still p.oed about that Chilli. The guy took a pay cut to stay with the team and was your leading receiver last year. How does that build teamwork and chemistry? Lewis is also a good receiver, but there must have been another option or player to move around?

This was a no brainer to me.jackson seemed to pic kup where he left off last yr and has improved. He showed in preseason he is capable of running this offense.Sage will be better after a yr or two on the bench but he isn’t ready yet he still makes to many mistakes. If favre goes down jackson can lead us the rest of the way.Favre hasn’t missed a game yet and can be pulled in games we get a big lead in so he can stay healthy. He’s not worried about stats now he has most of the records. After he sets the one for most consecutive games and win’s the sb with the vikes he will retire for good.
