Vikings preseason TV broadcasts averaged a 19.9 household (HH) rating in 2009, a figure that is 5th highest in the league and represents nearly double the number from the 2008 preseason broadcasts.
This year’s high ratings were anchored by a likely preseason record 30.6 HH rating for the Vikings 3rd preseason game against the Houston Texans, which was the game Brett Favre played nearly 3 full quarters.
Even before Favre’s arrival with the Vikings, the franchise was in high profile after a 10-6 record in 2008 that was complete with a division title. But there’s no doubt that Favre’s presence on the team has increased the franchise’s profile.
The huge increase in preseason TV ratings is only a precursor to what will likely be record numbers in regular season TV ratings as well.
