Report: Vikings Release Wade

Posted by Mike Wobschall on September 10, 2009 – 10:42 am

According to a report from Sean Jensen of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the Vikings have released veteran WR Bobby Wade. The Vikings have not released a statement confirming the release of Wade and vikings.com cannot confirm the development.

Jensen also asserts that the Vikings will fill Wade’s vacated spot on the roster with WR Greg Lewis, who has spent time with both the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots.

Lewis is a 6-year veteran with 23 starts and 127 receptions for 1,699 yards and 7 TDs.

wow…i can see dropping wade to make more room for a temporary DT or one of those on the cusp LB’s, or mccauly, but I find it hard to believe they’d bring in jensen?

What of Percy Harvin of Florida — plans for him @ WR or just as a return specialist?

letting wade go is taking a chance I don’t know anything about greg lewis but its on chilly and we need good recievers and wade is the second leading reciever on the team and thats not easily replaced.

I won’t call the new reciever any names all I will say is chilly has put a contender together and just needs to call good plays on the offense.I trust him a little more this yr and will wait to see what he saw special in lewis.

What I understand is that Lewis is faster running a 4.41 40 where Wade is 4.66. It’s a move that indicates that Berrian probably won’t be ready to play on all cyllinders come Sunday. Wade’s strength was in the slot, while Harvin is expected to shine there Wade was likely to get few reps himself. Childress loves to stretch the field to give AP more room to run, and speedy WRs are going to do this better. But we need to prove that these guys are going to catch the deep throws first, (and that our gunslinger can still throw it deep).

PPE dropped some knowledge, but still could end up being a BAD MOVE.

Wade was traded for a less productive player because the coach wets his pants everytime an Eagle player is released, especially if it’s one that played while he was there. If you look at the stats on Wade and Lewis, there’s no comparison, Wade wins hands down. Is there a difference in $? I don’t think so. If you had a need help at some other position maybe you can justify releasing Wade, but you can’t justify a Wade for Lewis exchange.
