Really tough to see Ian Johnson go, I thought he was better then Young, but hopefully he makes practice roster. Also disappointed to see Herron go, and surprised at McCauley

So they release their strongest possible third back AND the possible third-stringer?? What happens at QB now??? Are we keeping Tarvaris?

Sorry to see Ian Johnson go.

No surprises really except for McCauley and Ian Johnson in my opinion.

Why would they keep Tavaris? Jd is so much better

I have to disagree keeping Harwell over Herron and Sapp over McCauley. Also suprised to see Ryan Cook on the roster.

With Booty being cut, it pretty much means Jackson is our backup.

Aw they didn’t cut Tarvaris…. Bad mistake for the Vikings. And Ian Johnson got cut? Now I’m sad.

Johnson looked pretty good against the third stringers. I thought Albert Young looked good and picked up the blitz much better though. He could still clear waivers and end up on the practice squad though. Seeing JDB go is tough and I don’t think he’ll clear waivers but Chilly obviously isn’t ready to give up on TJack just yet. It would seem the trade offers either weren’t there or he just wasn’t ready to admit failure on that one. Happy to see they kept Onatolu, he played well.

We cut a 4th rb so we could keep sanford – abdullah sanford and frampton are too valuable on special teams

I thought ian johnson was a much better 3rd back, hopefully he’ll stick to the practice squad. That or he can have success with another team. Good luck Ian Johnson

Andrew I highly disagree, look at how well Jackson has done in the past couple weeks compared to JD Booty, for example the pick JD Booty threw just last night!

JDB gone. When will they learn. Since TK was at QB, they have not have a starting QB for more than 2 years. I have lost faith in this joke of a team a long time ago. Some of these cuts just solidify it.

why on earth does everyone seem to think johnson was our best option as a 3rd back? he has no versatility, and isnt even as good of a runner as young. just because guys can make a couple of plays here and there in college, doesnt mean theyre going to be superstar nfl players. young is the better back, and he showed that during the preseason. ppl need to stop getting so attached to ian johnson, who was merely an average runner even in college, nvm the nfl. we get it, you loved the boise/oklahoma game, as did i, but lets not forget the big picture

    Why Booty

  20. By Erik on Sep 5, 2009 | Reply

Honestly, I think its wonderful that they kept Tarvaris Jackson. JD did not do very well, and I am very glad we got rid of him. Why would we keep someone who has never started a game over someone who has and has good potential? But whatever, it’s done, and I’m happy what happened, although it is a shame that Ian Johnson got waived.

Canadian vikes fan; I think we have a better chance of TJack turning into a Joe Montana caliber quarterback overnight than we do of Ian Johnson clearing waivers and landing on the practice squad. Ian Johnson is too good. He will be on someone else’s team, if he isn’t already. In my opinion, Ian Johnson is way better than Albert Young and has a lot more upside. Maybe i’m wrong and Ian makes it to the practice squad but I doubt it.

  26. By greensnake on Sep 5, 2009 | Reply

Sorry but Booty was not better than TJack, that’s why they kept Jackson instead. Hopefully Johnson & Booty can be put on the practice squad if no one claims them. McCauley was the only suprise cut to me, the rest I expected.

man theres too much man love going on for johnson..the guy makes one play, and just happens to be the lucky guy on that roster that got to get the ball on a trick play where he walks into the endzone untouched, then decides to propose. if he doesnt propose to his gf after that play, nobody would know who he is, AND nobody wouldve cared that he got cut

booty showed everyone last night why he will never start a game in this league. he has no recognition of whats going on, he doesnt have the arm to get it down field, and on 4th and short, he makes a terribly tough throw to somebody double covered down field rather than trying to just get the 1st down with plenty of time still on the clock. ppl claim that this guy is supposed to be smart, but he hasnt shown any smarts whatsoever

TJack was a speculative long-term project. It may still pay off, but he clearly wasn’t ready last year. Maybe working with a seasoned veteran will help him develop.

  35. By NN on Sep 5, 2009 | Reply

Booty was terrible! I really think all of the decisions on the 53 man roster were good.

The only one I can understand some question is Ian Johnson.. but he’s not much different than Albert Young.

And besides with Peterson and Taylor why do we care so much about the 3rd string RB?

  36. By Jeff on Sep 5, 2009 | Reply

What in the world has JDB done in the NFL for the Vikings to keep him over TJack? I’m seriously curious for someone to point that out to me. Sure he was good at SC with the “pro-style” offense. Andrew & Mike… would you really feel more confortable handing the ball to JDB if Sag & Favre go down. We have 3 solid quarterbacks to make this run. We’re all in.

  37. By purplehorn on Sep 5, 2009 | Reply

I knew some good lineman were going to have to go. Some of these guys will get scooped up and not make it to the practice squad like last year. Daniels was listed in the depth charts along most of the line last year. Cooper beat Daniels out for the backup spot. Mills was hurt more than he played- no brainer there.

  38. By Jake on Sep 5, 2009 | Reply

I dont get why ppl are so sad to see Booty go , He is a THIRD string QB , a THIRD string QB doesnt even contribute to a team , i dont even know why teams keep 3 , i think teams should have a wildcat type QB as a 3rd stringer that can play a different position too cuz otherwise the 3rd stringer is pointless to a team and i really think the Rosenfels pick up was a bad thing cuz it wasted a 4th round pick that could contribute more than Rosenfels will this year and same for the 3rd string RB , we have AP and Chester, the 3rd stringer will barely play and i think Albert Young and Ian Johnson both have different strengths so i dont think it matters which one they chose anyway and in this case it was Young, what i’m saying is those two cuts of Booty and Johnson don’t make a difference to this team at all

  39. By Led P on Sep 5, 2009 | Reply

Ian Johnson may have been only an “average runner” at BSU, as stated by Chris O (still obviously hurting as a Sooner fan?). However, he did happen to break LT’s WAC touchdown record and meant a lot more to the program than one play in the Fiesta Bowl.

The guy played through almost a full game with a collapsed lung in the Fiesta Bowl season and with his heart and dedication will land somewhere in the NFL. I would guess he’s off the market before he makes it to the Vikes practice squad…

  40. By Albert Jimenez on Sep 5, 2009 | Reply

The only surprises are Brian Daniels and Grigsby, but only a little surprising. Other than that I thought they we’re spot on. (Oh and I would have liked John David over Jackson, but considering Jackson is to Childress what McNabb is to Ried, and I should have known better than to expect Brad to release him!)

  41. By Rob on Sep 5, 2009 | Reply

About what I thought! Chilly will never admit he made a mistake with Jackson. JD will be missed in the long run so will Johnson.

  42. By purplehorn on Sep 5, 2009 | Reply

Didn’t Paymah give up the deep ball to the Texans? McCauley had the same problem on deep patterns. Probably the right move there.

  43. By JW on Sep 5, 2009 | Reply

Now that TJack is still on the team, we might have some options for him. TJack is a very good athelete and a so-so quarterback. If were going to continue to pay him, we might as well use his atheletic skills. Tjack in the back field with Harvin running the wildcat. Who knows. All I know is we have a great athelete who can throw the ball. He doesn’t always throw it to the right person or throw it good at all, but hey. If he only has to make a couple of throws per game can we benefit from it?

  44. By Brad on Sep 5, 2009 | Reply

I for one am not impressed with Rosenfels. TJ has driven me nuts since he became a Viking but he’s got better talent than Rosenfels. I would have rather seen Rosenfels gone (too big a contract, I suppose) and Booty still at number 2. I thought they liked Vinny Perretta a lot. I think our receivers are pretty mediocre and out secondary is still the hole of the defense, although I’m glad Sharper is gone. Shame he was never as good as he thought he was!

Alll four NFC North teams have improved, though and I think it will be Favre and our special teams play that will make the difference this year. The D is the best around overall… certainly the best in the division and is what will get us deep into the playoffs! SKOL!

FINALLY. Marcus McCaulley is gone, I’m sick of seeing him get burned. And JDB held on to the ball way too long to even think of making the team again. At least 1/3 of the QB’s I want gone are. Now if only the Bengals would give us that bowl of soup for Tarvaris… I liked Ian Johnson a lot, but I hope he goes practice squad.

  54. By purplehorn on Sep 5, 2009 | Reply

Booty was burned as a rookie and Friday night on almost identical patterns. He doesn’t see the LB/DB and telegraphs the throw without looking off the LB. It was really dumb both times.Bad time to do something dumb twice. Last time it was Derrick Martin of the Ravens for an easy six.

  55. By Zach on Sep 5, 2009 | Reply

How do people think McCaulley getting cut is a suprise?! He gets burned every time he’s on the field. He gave us no reason not to cut him. Good riddance!

I definitely see keeping Farwell over Herron, remember those with multiple skill packages are more valuable and Farwell was the #1 special teams tackler the last year he played. Loosing Ian Johnson was the worst part of this cut. I hope ends up on our PS and resuraces in the future. Really a good man and a solid player.

I don’t like Booty (John). But I don’t like rosenfels either. I’d rather they’d stuck with Booty, and Johnson over Young for that matter.
I’m not surprised by McCauley’s cut. Allen showed he’s better in that last preseason game, and he’s improving fast.

And for those doubters of Ian Johnson, he’s good. He is more of a power running back and is great on screens. But we have Taylor for screens, who’s probably the best in the league at it.

how can you want to keep john david over tarvaris??? JDB hasnt done anythinggg to prove himself…jackson still has alot to learn but he was 8-4 as a starter last year..and he did throw 4 touchdowns against the cardinals last season. He still has a ways to go but keeping jdb over jackson would just be foolish….not like either jackson or JDB are gonna be starters….jackson mght not even be number 2 this season

  60. By VikesFanDan on Sep 5, 2009 | Reply

JDB will not be missed. He did nothing to show me hes ready to stay on this team. Vikes WILL draft a QB in the first round next year. Additionally, if you look at how much our 3rd string RB’s get used, you’ll see that the only reason we keep one is just in case AP or CT get hurt. They are almost never used. Also, neither Young or Johnson are known for being special teamers, so a guy got to stay that will help there as well as ride the pine, something Johnson would do for all but 13 plays all season.

Anyone who thinks JDB could contribute more than Sage or TJack is kidding themselves. TJack deserves one year as being the unquestioned starter. Yes, the guy has made just as many stupid plays as good ones, but next year he needs to go into camp as the hands-down starter. If we put that confidence in him, I think it would pay dividends on the field.

  65. By Derek on Sep 5, 2009 | Reply

i agree with cody…ever since childress drafted him hasn’t shown that he has enough confidence in him to be a starter…jackson hasnt been able to be comfortable at qaurterback because he has always felt like every single play could get him benched…i dont know how anybody could play well in that situation

  66. By Andrew on Sep 5, 2009 | Reply

TJ has improved. He showed that against the Chiefs.
He has had a very good preseason and should be considered #2 starter.

As for the draft, idk if Tebow will be available by the time the Vikings get their pick. He’s like a Michael Vick, only clean. A few teams are probably going to try to get him.

I dont like Tavaris, but for those of you who think John David Booty is better I have one tip for you: GET YOUR EYES CHECKED! Tavaris is not good, but Booty has played against the worst defenders on the preseason rosters , and hasnt shown through. Meanwhile Jackson makes decent plays against 1st-3rd team defenders.

I wont miss any of these guys especially Marcus McCauley who has had his chances and hasnt shown much.

  73. By MI Vikefan on Sep 5, 2009 | Reply

Stop the crying about McCauley, Johnson, and Booty. They got beat out for roster spots. McCauley has never shown more than promise, Booty has shown nothing, and Ian Johnson is not as good a blocker as Young, not that either one of them would see the field much anyways. If you guys want a team to complain about, come to Michigan and root for the Lions. Suck it up and quit your griping!

  74. By TE519 on Sep 5, 2009 | Reply

Was rooting really hard for Ian to make the team. Hopefully he’ll clear waivers and be signed to the practice squad.

Anyone who thinks Ian Johnson was a one-trick-play guy clearly doesn’t follow college football very closely. He finished 1st in career TD’s in the WAC ahead of Marshall Faulk and LaDainian Tomlinson with 59. Total combined rushing and receiving yardage was 4,825 with much of the receiving yardage coming in his last two years, as he expanded his game.

I know there is a plan. I think it is going to be tough for some of the guys we let go to be unemployed for long. I loved Ian Johnson’s motor hope we can bring him back. You are right about that, but they happen to be only one play away from being on the field. Backups are no employed to ride the bench or try to find a spot on special teams. They are insurance just in case your starter gets hurt. You want to have the best backups possible even if you think they won’t play a down, cause you never know when they will have to.

Booty will go to practice squad and TJ will be kept…BUT, will be traded at the 1st opportunity for a draft pick down the line…they will then make Booty 3rd string backup. They don’t want to release TJ and get nothing for him and know they are safer to waive JDB as he doesn’t have the experience, so won’t be very tempting to other teams. That’s my guess on Chilly’s thinking.

Ian will get picked up by another team…too bad. I liked him.

Have #4 stay thru next year, draft McCoy, Bradford, or even Tebow if you dont move up, and let that prospect learn from Favre for a year.

Should have cut S.Rosenfelds horrible decision maker over paid career 3rd stringer should have found someone else on waivers to be our 3rd stringer. I would also rather keep 4 RBS (Ian Johnson) and only keep 5 WR’S? I say cut Bobby Wade no upside at all.Reynaud & Jaymar can do anything he can do…

  116. By dtklandis on Sep 5, 2009 | Reply

I dont know why you are all upset about Ian Johnson being cut. He is not an NFL running back. He also doesn’t play special teams well. That is why he was cut. He was running against 3rd and 4th string defenses all preseason. That’s pretty much against all the other undrafted players like himself. I live in the boise area and have always said he is not NFL caliber. All of you BSU lovers need to get a life. What he did at BSU doesn’t get him into the NFL. He wasn’t even the starter last year. BSU is overrated. They need to step up and play a tougher schedule and maybe there players would be more NFL ready. BSU sucks! Go Vikes!

Wade is the worst slot guy in the nfl 9 yds avg. per catch cant score plus we have harvin to take that spot.

As much as I loathe Tavaris Jackson, I agree with him still being on the roster. He is in his 3rd year while it doesnt appear that he has worked on his game much he has raw talent. If he decides to ever step his game up he may be decent. Favre will only be with us 1 year @ most. I am shocked @ McCauley though. Paymah has looked good as a nickel back.

Harvin will take bobby wades spot no question. Wade is on the team still because he can play against first string talent, something that williams and peretta havent proven. Rosenfels isnt just on the team because they traded for him….obviously that had something to do with it but rosenfels can play quarterback if the vikings need him too, if JDB cant play against 3rd adn 4th string cowboys i cant imagine that he could play against first string steelers, ravens, bears etc….

All you guys want to rip a guy for coming from a small school into the NFL , it takes time to get better and this year he’s finally getting pushed a bit and he’s stepping up. did you guys NOT see the interception Sage threw last night (B-R-U-T-A-L) now Jackson can spend the year learning from a real pro and step in next year and play just fine.

I for one think keeping T-Jack was one of the smartest moves Chili made. It takes about 3 to 4 years to develop into a good quarterback and T-Jack has improved every year. His mistakes are amplified more because he has a better team to work with that’s built to win now. Had he had a different college pedigree (graduated from a better ‘football’ college), we don’t even have this discussion and he gets 3 to 4 years to develop. As stated earlier in the comments, it’s hard for him to be consistent knowing you could be benched after every mistake. Mark my words: WE WILL NEED T-JACK THIS YEAR TO CARRY US TO THE PROMISED LAND! ALL HATERS WILL BE SILENCED! Sage is a third backup qback at best. Don’t know why we traded for him. Think it was a panic move by Chili. It’s a long season and as good as the O-Line is, Farve is just two sacks away from suffering a major injury. Farve is definitely an upgrade and T-Jack as back up makes the position a position of strength. Go Vikes!!!!

It seems to me from just watching on tv that TJack doesn’t want anything to do with Farve. Hopefully this will change because I really think a year or maybe even two with Brett would really groom him into a decent starting QB. Did anyone else notice Brett encouraging JDB after his terrible interception? I have a feeling that JDB would have been more willing to learn from Brett than TJack is. Hopefully he can loose the chip off his shoulder and take full advantage of this oppertunity to learn from one of the all time best.

Then it gives us a chance to except offers and not lose as much Money… If we except a trade then re-sign.. Also Chester is in his last year of his contract and will Probably go somewhere next year that he can start for his last chance…Ian Johnson yes was doing well and will likely back up another 1st stringer somewhere… But young was good at iowa also and has proven to be solid.. Mc Call-who he was at best a nickel cb and not worth the chance of losing another lb [as is A Henderson ok????] We have a great team and altho I hated Farve for 15 years as a packer he is a blast to watch and now cheer for.. 167. By FACTS ON T-JACK on Sep 6, 2009 | Reply

People need to look at the facts on T-Jack, not base it on personal feelings.
    (1) Last year he had a QB rating of 95.4 and it’s gotten better every year. TJack’s HIGHER than Favre (81), Delhomme (84.7), Eli Manning (86.4), Romo (91.4), and almost as high as Warner (96.9).
    (2) When I present the 2008 regular season facts stated in (1) above, people either go in denial or point to T-Jack’s performance against the Eagles in the playoffs. Let’s look at the FACTS again. Dallas and Carolina also lost to the Eagles (the week prior and the week after) as well in the same “win or go home” scenario. Romo and Delhomme led their offenses to fewer points than T-Jack. Also as badly as T-Jack played that game, his QB Rating was STILL HIGHER than both Romo and Delhomme in their respective “win or go home” games against the Eagles.
    (3) T-Jack had a perfect QB rating in the preseason against the Chiefs. How many other QB’s in the league also had a perfect QB rating in this preseason?
For those out there that don’t like T-Jack, the truth hurts don’t it. :-)

  183. By val on Sep 6, 2009 | Reply

T-Jack sat out those games, last year, because his toddler son was down south…in the hospital…fighting for his life! Even Chilly said he benched him because his head wasn’t in the game. I don’t blame him for worrying about his family. Look at what he did AFTER his son was OK and Gus got hurt. 7-1 TD INT ratio before he saw his first post-season ever. I’ll take that over Sage and BOOTY any day.

  184. By Lee on Sep 6, 2009 | Reply

Why did they not play t jack more in the final game! So to show him off and get a better draft or trade for a better player! Chilly up to his is poor coaching!

  185. By JP on Sep 6, 2009 | Reply

Anyone who think Booty was a Pro QB didn’t watch him play. T-Jack is better than him, not that T-Jack is what the Purple need. Bring in Jeff Garcia. Dump T-Jack.

  186. By Brett on Sep 6, 2009 | Reply

The only one that suprises me is Marcus McCauley. Ian johnson is not a solid third string and only looked good againts the third and fourth string defence. And they should have kept booty only so that they can trade off sage. They cut booty to not take the penalty on the salary cap next year or sage would have been gone. Tarvaris Jackson is going to back up Farve.

  187. By Mark on Sep 6, 2009 | Reply

Tarvaris is good. JDB has no right to be out there other than that he is young, etc.
Tarvaris performed well in the 2nd half last year, he performed extremely well in the preseason, he has awesome deep touch and can move in the pocket. When are you ever going to give the guy a break? What does he have to do to prove to all of you idiots that he is a good QB? Sage hasn’t done anything well yet. Get over it

  188. By Mark on Sep 6, 2009 | Reply

Do not get rid of Tjack. I swear the only reason you guys don’t like him is because he’s a “mobile” or “athletic” QB and you all know what that means. I am sick of everyone berating him when he is clearly the 2nd best QB on the team next to Favre. Get it thru your heads everyone. Sage and JDB are interception machines so far with no ability to get the ball downfield or to improvise.

  189. By Mark on Sep 6, 2009 | Reply

as far as Ian Johnson, he is a stud and should have been kept also. JDB had his chance and totally blew it. When I hear people talking about the guy, he didn’t do ONE thing well this preseason. I might be just a fan, I don’t get to see what happens in practice, etc, but come on. Open your eyes. Tarvaris is good, JDB missed his opportunity, Sage cost too much to get rid of, and Ian Johnson I feel earned his spot so that was a surprise.

“dumping jd just means they’ll be shopping for a qb again because the two backups would be cut from all the other nfl teams……guess who will be in the draft next year tebow!”

Are you mental? Name 32 backups better than TJack.

And Carrie, get a sense of humor – of course it wasn’t Spielman the guy was just joking around.

Oh and one more thing – Tebow won’t do anything in the NFL – he’ll be another start NCAA QB/Heisman winner that won’t have a pro career.

I really do hope that the medical staff for the Vikings will take heed of the fact that if a player like Favre has a rib fracture and plays he is setting himself up for a pneumothorax or injury to other adjacent chest visceral organs(heart, liver, spleen). Please diagnose properly and think ahead. Thank you, he is too valuable to lose out of your ignorance.

  194. By VikesRule123 on Sep 6, 2009 | Reply

REALITY CHECK….Okay…here’s the truth. Out of the 4 qb’s we had, which one is the worst. Booty. Now with that said…Booty is the only one of those who has even a remote chance of clearing waivers(no team signing him). If they release Sage or Tjack, they’re picked up like a 20$ bill at Pac Man JOnes’ house on stripper nite, and in the process, we as a organization get nothing of value for them. So, here’s what I think will happen. Booty clears waivers, and signs on the practice squad…Jackson gets traded…mostly because we actually will get something for him(2nd rounder in 10′ draft). Which we will package with our second and our first to move up into the top 5 and grab a QB. Booty becomes our third, Sage at 2, and we ride the arm of the Golden Boy. He(draft pick next year) gets one year to learn from Favre, and Bam…he’s our guy.

Wow…you are the worst kinda sports fan Jason. A fair weather one. Why do I root for FAvre after watching him play the Vikes for so long. Simple…I’m a vikings FAN first, a PAcker hater second. I’m surprised by McCauley, Grigsby and obviously Booty. I was quite sure that either TJack or Rosie would leave after Favre’s signing. The idea should have been to keep a good one to back up for Favre and the young Booty to have him learn behind. Cuz in two years, we’re still in bad shape at QB. Favre is gone, Rosie and TJack can’t really be better than they are now. Probably means we’ll pick a QB in 1st round at next year draft. Then when Favre retires…for good…we have a contingency plan on hand…

  200. By Brian on Sep 6, 2009 | Reply

I also agree with those of you who say Ian Johnson is over-rated. Young is the better back and I am glad they kept him. JDB is a terrible QB and should have been let go like he was. Sage will probably be the backup, although T-Jack has played better this preseason. I think the Vikes had to keep him for that reason alone because someone would have taken him immediately, now they have some trade bait if needed to solidify this SB run!!!

  201. By Loren on Sep 6, 2009 | Reply

I cant understand why keeping Jackson would be better!!! JDB with a little experience would be better…. Jackson should have been able to build up his arm strength by now… He’s had 2+ years to do that…. JDB was 3rd string last year and didn’t have any time to progress…Bad move to keep Jackson!!!

I’m very happy with the 53-man roster. Good job Vikings. Ian Johnson is a great story and a great guy, but Albert Young has been with the Vikings for a year now and showed that he deserved the #3 RB spot. JDB has shown nothing to keep him on this team the past 2 pre-seasons. He also wasn’t that good in college IMO (late round draft pick too), many people just love USC qb’s. They kept the best 3 qb’s. I can’t wait for the regular season!

  205. By Alvike on Sep 6, 2009 | Reply

I think the Vikings will sign a QB to the practice squad, then they’ll start shopping Sage. T-Jack has proven to be the better QB, and they would rather get rid of Sage’s contract then T-Jacks. T-Jacks is way more cost friendly. I think they could even get their 4th round pick back by trading Sage.

Ian Johnson is a a tough one too see let go…that could come back to hurt next year if C.Taylor decides to go somewhere else. Young and Johnson both looked great. Young did do somethings better but I think Ian has the greater upside. “Ian I pray for the best for you and your family” keep working like you always have and you are going to be in the NFL!! best of luck

Rick Spielman– yes I am only a fan, but I was a Vikings fan before you could find Minn. on a map. I would never have traded a 4th round pick for Rosenfels when all you had to do was talk to your off. coordinator to know Farve was going to play again. Also when you can’t sell out games and need public help for a new stadium, you should check your ego at the door. Fans are entitled to there opinions. You get paid for yours and if the Vikings aren’t playing in the superbowl you need to do a better job.

You guys actually think JDB was better than T Jack, c’mon just because he went to USC and got all the press for being on a team that had a stellar supporting cast you believe the hype, he’s not that good. And second, Ian Johnson most knew from the start that he would not make the team. It would make for a great story to have the guy who proposed to his wife after a BCS game but he is just not that good. Sorry folks we must live in the present and judge the players on how well they stack up against the pros not their college foes.

I think Ian is a very versatile player and just wasnt given the opportunity to show what he really is about. If he was just so-so in college, how did he tie LT’s WAC record of touchdowns? Many people praise LT as one of the best players, yet talk down about Ian when he DID THE SAME THING! I hope someone else picks Ian up. He has worked very hard and deserves a chance. Good luck Ian!

History: Was at camp scoping out the players last year, did not make it to camp this year.

However: I was very pleased with the job management did with collecting the absolute best preseason group of players I have seen in 25 years. It was an exciting and enjoyable experience watching all four of the preseason games.

We didn’t miss a play as we got to know the new players and along with the coaching staff reviewed the performance of these excellent athletes.

From my perspective sitting in my cushy leather recliner, after Friday night I only had THREE PLAYERS I didn’t want on my roster!

That is a fantastic preseason, I want to thank the players who played and made honest efforts to make MY TEAM. The guys who didn’t make the team, good luck in the league and thank you for one of the most exciting preseasons in years.

2008 Qb rating for the NFC (2008 starters and current slotted 2009 starters)
Limited it to at least 100 attempts.

    Tarvaris Jackson]> Qb rating = 95.4
    Brett Favre]> Qb rating = 81.0
    Sage Rosenfels]> Qb rating = 79.5
    Gus Frerotte]> Qb rating = 73.7

    Aaron Rodgers]> Qb rating = 93.8

    Jay Cutler]> Qb rating = 86.0
    Kyle Orton]> Qb rating = 79.6

    Dan Orlovsky]> Qb rating = 72.6
    Jon Kitna]> Qb rating = 72.2

WOW -Some of you guys are throwing fits about nothing. I liked McCauley. He did better than the corner we had before him. But if you find someone better or he has not progressed as far as you want you have the right to cut him. I am with many of you who like young, I watched him in some of these preseason games. He looks good. I don’t care if Johnson proposed at the end of a game and made everyone shed a tear as mr sensitive. whatever ! it doesn’t mean we should find a special place for him. With Booty released it does leave room to draft someone new down the road. I like the posts with Jacksons ratings, they were not bad numbers. Funny how we love someone when we think they are better than the current guy and when we see he has some learning to do we hate em.

  227. By habbernator on Sep 6, 2009 | Reply

Why did they keep TJack – because Chilly cant admit defeat. They did win the conference but it was a weak one and if not for Ferrotte we wouldnt have won. TJACK has had enough chances to learn and try but he is injury prone, poor decision maker, weak and poor aim, and JDB should have been kept for 1) waste of a draft not using him 2) Tarvaris is done. He had his chance numerous times and cant get it right. 3)JDB is unproven because we never use him!!!! Put him in more and he prob will do more. Hes not ready yet but we have to give him a chance. He may be the next TJACK but he could be the next Farve/Brady/Manning – take your pick. We dont have 10 years to give TJACK time to develop. HE’ll spend most injured (without even being touched) and why did we draft him in the first place. Now that was a waste of a draft. TOO MUCH INCONSISTENCY>

go look at the Vikings qb preseason stats. Cover up the names and read each line of stats and then ask yourself which line would you want your starting qb to have. TJ played the best hands down!!

Rap99, your insults towards TJack are really getting annoying. Just because you have been unable to improve yourself in any shape or fashion since turning 25 doesn’t mean that is the case for everybody. In fact, most people continue to learn and get better at what they do for decades after leaving school. Let’s give him a chance, and argue over statistics and other measurable facts instead of spouting off some low-brow, one-dimensional red-necked opinion.

Congratulations, very tough decisions had to be made…

I went through a hypothetical cut list before the Dallas game I had practically the same roster but I had Radovich making it, and Otis Grigsby making it
Had Jaymar Johnson and Sanford getting cut. Obviously you guys made improving special teams a real priority so I can see why you made the moves you did.

I personally felt that because Reynaud stepped it up so much that we wouldn’t even feel that we needed to keep Jaymar. I felt that because we are so deep at WR, and because Reynaud showed he actually may be the better returner for sure at KR and possible at PR that Jaymar wouldn’t actually add anything unless someone on special teams was injured.

With 5 WRs plus Garret Mills getting cut, plus Nick Moore making the practice squad I’m starting to get the impression that the Vikes plan to use more 4 and 5 WR sets, is this acurate?

I was very surprised to see the vikings release David Herron. I thought that he played well when he was given the opportunity to get on the field. I believe that they might have problems if Onatolu is forced to play the linebacker position, he is to small. I also believe that Erin Henderson may have received preferential treatment from the coaching staff.

  237. By warrenviking on Sep 8, 2009 | Reply

Keep in mind Herron started 3 games at middlelinebacker before he was injured last year. I feel that the vikings needed to keep his experience in the event that one of the starters got injured. If I remember correctly Herron is able to play all 3 linebacker positions. Childress made a mistake on this one.
