Roster Cuts Coming Today

Posted by Mike Wobschall on September 5, 2009 – 8:23 am

The Vikings and the other 31 NFL teams must trim their rosters from 75 players to 53 by 5:00 p.m. CT today. This means that 22 players who suited up for the Vikings last night will not be with the team tonight.

There will be a formal announcement once the team has decided on its 53-man roster and we’ll have that right here on vikings.com. Throughout the day today, word may come from other sources as to who gets cut. But we’ll post it right here on the vikings.com Blog or at our official Twitter account – @VikingsFootball - once it becomes official.

We’ll do the same thing tomorrow morning as the team fills out its practice squad roster.

The Vikings will be well served by keeping Ian Johnson on their roster. Just a plug for one of the best young total Football athletes around. Good luck IJ.

DO NOT CUT IAN JOHNSON !!! He is one of the most all around talented running backs available. He reminds me of Marshall Faulk the way he escapes tacklers, can see and react to the holes that open up for him, and last but not least he can catch and run better than most running backs in the NFL. Just wait, down the road you will all see his value to this franchise. He is a winner !!!

I agree wit the both of you about IA, the guy is really a good football player and really hope he makes the roster, if not the 53 man, the practice squad, he is too good of a player to let go. Also my hearts, I truly believe that he is the odd man out, however, I wish him the best.
