Forgot to mention in the previous post the predictions included in ESPN the Magazine’s NFL Preview edition. The magazine did a cool thing this year by have a consensus prediction, but also predictions from its 2 Monday Night Football analysts – Jon Gruden and Ron Jaworski.
The magazine forecasts the Bears as NFC North champs with the Vikings getting into the playoffs via the Wildcard. They have the Chargers and Giants meeting in the Super Bowl with San Diego coming out on top.
Gruden and Jaworski both have the Vikings winning the NFC North. Jaworski has the Vikings losing to the Patriots in the Super Bowl and Gruden has the Vikings falling short in the playoffs, with the Patriots defeating the Saints in the Super Bowl.

Colts QB Peyton Manning and C Jeff Saturday are on the cover, but just one flip of the page and you’ll see several shots of Peterson in a Nike advertisement.
Check it out if you subscribe to ESPN the Magazine. If you don’t subscribe, maybe now would be a convenient time to make a dentist appointment and check it out in the waiting room.

NFL teams are required to trim their rosters to 75 players by this afternoon, and the Vikings have cut 4 players in order to fulfill that mandate. Coming into Tuesday, the Vikings had 79 players on the roster.
K Taylor Mehlhaff, DB Derrick Roberson, RB Antone Smith and G Nick Urban were cut today. Those cuts leave the Vikings with 1 kicker, 14 DBs, 6 RBs/FBs and 13 OL.
The next deadline for cuts is on this Saturday, when all NFL teams are required to trim their rosters to 53 players.

The feel-good emotion that comes from a victory in the NFL will be short-lived for the Vikings this week. Just 4 nights after a 17-10 win over the Houston Texans on Monday Night Football, the Vikings will bounce back and conclude their preseason by hosting the Dallas Cowboys at the Metrodome on Friday night at 7:00 CT.
Included in the 4 days between games will be normal preparation for a preseason game but also something that Vikings Head Coach Brad Childress describes as the toughest part about coaching – making roster cuts. The Vikings, and the rest of the NFL’s 31 teams, must be down to 75 players by Tuesday afternoon. Currently, the Vikings have 79 players on the roster.
The toughest part of coaching doesn’t get any easier after Friday night’s game, either. The Vikings must whittle their roster down to 53 players by Saturday afternoon.
