– The Vikings waived WR Glenn Holt today. That transaction leaves the Vikings with 9 WRs on the roster and a total of 79 players. The 1st roster cut downday is Tuesday, September 1, when all clubs must trim their rosters to 75 players. The cutdown day for all teams to be at 53 players is Saturday, September 5.

    Another surprise choice. Holt may not have been much of a receiver, but it looked like he was going to be a great player in punt coverages. In the first game he knocked the returners legs out from underneath him immediately after the ball made contact with the guy’s hands! Hits like that are going to cause fumbles more often than not, and almost certainly end up in points if the kicking team recovers, simply due to the field position.

    Good luck Glenn, whoever picks you up is going to look like a genius.

    Its really more of a numbers game, he was probably the 7th best WR. That was a great special teams play, but there are a number of players still on the team that will make special teams coverage units much better compared to the first half of last season. If they Vikes keep 6 WRs Darius Reynaud will probably be a good contributor on special teams.
