Vikings Defeat Colts 13-3

Posted by Mike Wobschall on August 14, 2009 – 9:13 pm

The Vikings defeated Indianapolis tonight by a count of 13-3, moving their preseason record to 1-0 and dropping the Colts to 0-1. The Viking scored all 13 of their points in the 1st half and put on a stellar defensive effort to smoother the Indianapolis offense all night.

QB Sage Rosenfels got the start and drove the Vikings 72 yards on 11 plays during the 1st series, resulting in a 5-yard Chester Taylor TD run and an early 7-0 lead. Colts QB Peyton Manning was sacked 3 times on his 1st drive and didn’t come back out for a 2nd series.

We’ll have more coverage on vikings.com tonight and into tomorrow.

Vikings Use a Little No-Huddle

Posted by Mike Wobschall on August 14, 2009 – 7:03 pm

On their 2nd drive of the game, the Vikings are using a little no-huddle offense, giving the Colts a taste of their own medicine. Peyton Manning of course is known for being proficient in the no-huddle, and the Vikings are looking pretty good in it as well.

Also, TE Visanthe Shiancoe and WR Jaymar Johnson have combined for a few nice hands catches so far in the game.

It appears RB Adrian Peterson and LG Steve Hutchinson are finished for the game.

Vikings March For TD to Open Game

Posted by Mike Wobschall on August 14, 2009 – 6:48 pm

The Vikings offense marched down the field on the opening drive of tonight’s game, going 72 yards in 11 plays and converting 2 4th downs along the way.

The drive was capped by Chester Taylor, who scampered into the endzone off of left tackle from 5 yards out. The Vikings led 7-0 at that point.

Adrian Peterson looked good, carrying the ball 4 times for 20 yards. Sage Rosenfels looked good, too, going 5 of 5 for 42 yards.

Another 4th Down Conversion

Posted by Mike Wobschall on August 14, 2009 – 6:43 pm

Faced with the 2nd 4th down situation of the 1st drive of the game, the Viking decided to go for it again. And it paid off again. QB Sage Rosenfels rolled to the right and hit TE Visanthe Shiancoe for a 17-yard pickup. Vikings continue to drive.

It’s great that the Vikings are converting on 4th down and short. Hopefully they can eventually find similar success on 3rd downs.

P.S. Adrian Peterson looks great so far.

Vikings Convert 4th Down

Posted by Mike Wobschall on August 14, 2009 – 6:41 pm

Faced with a 4th and inches on the 1st drive of the game, the Vikings decided to go for it. Coach Brad Childress’ decision paid off, as RB Adrian Peterson dashed through the middle of the line for the 1st down.

Vikings continue to drive and have crossed midfield.

Vikings Ownership Tours Lucas Oil Stadium

Posted by Mike Wobschall on August 14, 2009 – 6:14 pm

Vikings owners Zygi, Mark and Lenny Wilf, along with various other members of the Vikings front office and staff, toured Lucas Oil Stadium prior to tonight’s game. Colts Senior VP Pete Ward gave the tour, which included a viewing of the stadiums several suite levels and Lucas Oil Plaza.

The Colts are entering their 2nd year in Lucas Oil Stadium, and the facility is impressive. As the tour was going on, the stadium’s roof was being retracted and the group enjoyed a view of downtown Indianapolis through a panel that was opened on one end of the stadium.

We’ll have a more comprehensive report of the stadium tour later this week on vikings.com, including video footage.

Vikings Arriving @ Lucas Oil Stadium

Posted by Mike Wobschall on August 14, 2009 – 4:10 pm

The 1st set of Vikings team buses have arrived at Lucas Oil Stadium for tonight’s preseason tilt against the Indinapolis Colts. I’m hearing that the retractable roof here at the stadium will be opened tonight.

The press boxes are very high above the stadium…I feel like I’m in the Goodyear Blimp. But it’s also very nice…the good people who work for the Colts have a nice place to do their job.

A contingent of Vikings personnel will get a tour of the stadium in about an hour…I am fortunate enough to be included in that group. So, I’ll have a brief report later this evening from the tour.
