Studwell Reacts

Posted by Mike Wobschall on August 10, 2009 – 6:45 pm

For 33 years, Scot Studwell has gone about his work inside the Vikings organization in workman-like fashion. Whether tallying a franchise-record number of career tackles or digging deep to devise the best draft strategy, Studwell has gone about his business quietly and professionally.

On Monday, Studwell was asked by Vikings ownership to become the next member of the Vikings Ring of Honor, the highest honor the Vikings can bestow upon an individual.

I reached him via cell phone on Monday evening as he was on the road (already back to work, figures!), and Scott was kind enough to share his reaction.

“It was certainly a shock,” Studwell said. “But it’s a tremendous honor to be mentioned in the same breath as some of the great individuals in our organization. The 33 years I’ve spent in this organization with so many great teammates, coaches, staff members and people has truly been an honor. This is just off the charts. It still hasn’t sunk in yet. I’m thrilled and humbled.”

It looks like he’s really started to get a feel for the scouting in recent years. There’s no question that the 2005 draft (which also happened to be Tice’s final year) was the worst one we have had in a long time. Nobody from 2005s cl*ss is on the team anymore, including 2 first rounders (E.James and T.Williamson).

Since, it seems like Stud has really started to find talent. All recent draftees except the bottom 3 selections of 2007 are still on the team, most playing big roles and at least 9 of them definite starters. 10 if Jackson (or Booty) wins the QB battle. We also have some great players from the beginning of his scouting with McKinnie(02), Henderson(03) and K.Williams(03).

Add all that to his outstanding 14 years as a Linbacker for the Vikings and it becomes clear why he deserves to join the Ring of Honor. Keep up the great work Stud, and continue helping us to build a great roster!
