A Speed Game With Harvin

Speed is an easily detectable element of Percy Harvin’s game. The ability to do things quickly on the football field has gotten Harvin to where is now – his 1st NFL training camp after a successful career at a top college program.

Now that Harvin is in Vikings training camp after a brief holdout, he’ll have to embrace speed in a different context. He needs to catch up to the rest of teammates, who’ve been going through practices and meetings since Friday.

“I feel comfortable,” Harvin said. “I’m not all the way up to speed right now but I feel comfortable. It’s the same plays we had in OTAs. We’ve got a great staff and a great team of veterans so I’ll have no problem catching back up.”

Speaking after his team’s Sunday afternoon practice, Vikings Head Coach Brad Childress acknowledged that it was good to have the fleet-footed and versatile WR in camp.

“It’s good to get Percy Harvin in here, signed, get him up to speed,” Vikings Head Coach Brad Childress said. “He got in here around noon and was able to make the position meeting today and get out here for our practice. It looks like he has some decent recall.”

Although he wasn’t in training camp, Harvin told reporters today that he’s been studying his playbook and staying in football shape by working with the University of Florida football team.

Being with Tim Tebow and a few of his other former college teammates and players was probably fun, but Harvin made it clear that he’s happy to be in camp.

“When you have Adrian Peterson, Bernard Berrian and those guys, it’s anybody’s dream,” Harvin said. “So I’m just happy to be out here.”
